Dude was trying real hard to be nice. I'm not dissing the M3/4 because I'm not going to be in the market to ever buy one, but the rear end is not BMW at all, and the sides have no character (lines/creases/anything). The grill is the least of my concerns
Also as you probably both know Evolve and Imran are specifically making a revised front end for the car.

Pre launch they already think there is a business case to rework the grill and overall bumper.

Wow.

I've never heard of that on a new release car before.
His spectacular fashion sense combined with previous work indicates that this is something well worth waiting for.

You talking about SOME products...

I am around products and I know people are always on the look out for the next best thing...that's why there are limited editions, special editions...etc

No one ever wants a sports car cycle to last for a hundred years...sports car owners always want changes that's why the mod market exist.

As to whether you find the G series beautiful or not...that's your opinion and nothing to do with me really. I am simply pointing out the fallacy that consumer doesn't want changes. People doesn't want to change their habit, but not on a product.

For those not concerned about such matters (which is likely most on here) I'm sure it will be a great car & no doubt much improved in many other areas such as better interior, more tech, more power. Unfortunately none of those are important to me personally & dont compensate for what the car will lose.
Imo it's basically going to be similar to the changes we've seen between the F82 & G82, there are many that are embracing the wider appeal of the new G82 & there are equally some that are not prepared to give up what the more hardcore F82 offers.
I'm not bashing the new G-series cars in any way it's simply that they appeal to a different market now & i personally am no longer part of that market.
I think that's fair enough, especially the items you mention are important to you.

What I'm excited for, in no particular order:
- Nice interior, I'm also OK with big curved screen
- Improved steering feel, as seen in G80/2 reviews. And wouldn't be shocked they keep improving it over the years
- Improved exhaust sound of S58 vs S55
- M seems to have figured out a nice balance of sporty ride and comfort
- Really loving the flares, I thought that was a little bit lacking on the F87
- No problems with the brakes, they don't look as nice as current M2C, but per the reviews, they really get the job done.
- Much happier with color selections on the G80, I only like LBB and Misano on the F87
- 8AT is irrelevant for me as I'd personally never consider any 2 pedal cars anyway, so the 6MT really might be the last M ever made with 3 pedals.

Not so keen, but we shall see:
- Increased weight is probably inevitable, but to be honest, I will still keep either the E85 Z4M or E36 M3 (or both), and they're both lighter and smaller than these cars anyway
- More complexity? How does that affect reliability?
- Price increase?
- Loved the way the options were on the F87, hope it stays similar, and also hoping for carbon buckets

More supple ride in comfort and about a half dozen less decibels inside would go a long way too.

Here's another article with recent spy shots. Is that a carbon roof, or just a black G87? I think its just a black car

Yes, I believe so too. No ugly grill (would be too much for a small car like the M2), but I really hope the tail lights aren't as ugly as the 2 series spy shots we've seen. After seeing many G80/2 in person now, its not the grills that bother me much. Its the side profile, and Lexus/Acura/Hyundai looking rear that do. I cant get over those.

Latest spy pic of a G42 M-Sport. Pretty aggressive looking for a non M car. Can't wait to see how the G87 will look.

Wonder how long this is, from the pic it looks like it has a pretty long snout (reminds me of a C6 Corvette in a way).

I really like what I see; that bulbous front hood line, with a chopped-off rear trunk is one awesome automotive silhouette, sort of like a throwback to the Z4 or 1M.

I believe some of have christen this look as the "clownshoe" styling, - in a more contemporary skin and all with all the modern bells and whistles is a winning combination.

The next M2 is really shaping up to be something special, I can't wait to see what they bring to the table.

Just please red seats and Adaptive Suspension, if you're listening BMW..

I rather like this. Looks nothing like a BMW and a lot like a small Dodge. But it's very cool.

The clown shoe is the one missed auto opportunity of my life.

LoL, I, myself, I remember I had a 'WTF is that' moment the first time I saw a Z4 M, probably the most infamous of the clownshoe styling; I liked it but was stilled confused by the design but seriously, I'm really feeling how well this car is shaping up.. It has pocket-rocket written all over it (for modem standards) and from what I'm reading, is definitely one of the last BMW with a third pedal or ICE option, so it's going to be a keeper.

I was instantly in love with the M Coupe. I was younger and possibly could have bought the most impractical car for myself at the time, but didn't, so always drooled over it. The M2 was the next such car that drew me in from BMW. I had to have it, and I did get it. I do see the clown shoe design resemblance in the G87 M2, it would be a great throwback to the M Coupe and the perfect blend of two perfect cars.

I don't really see the clown shoe, reminds me more of a Jag F-type. I also really like the other spy pics of the flared fenders and quarters which makes sense if it's going to repurpose the G80/2 drivetrain.

Also, it looks like the G87 won't be hampered like the F87 was with options. ynguldyn makes no mention of adaptive suspension, but it sounds promising that it may finally get it.

  • G87 M2 will be available with a manual and an automatic.
  • Most options will be the same as G80/G82, and I don't see much of that decontenting that was done with the original F87 compared with F80/F82. Though ceramic brakes and bucket seats seem to be missing, all the drivetrain and suspension things are the same as G82, and even carbon roof will be an option.
  • The wheels will be 19" front and 20" rear, G87 specific design.
  • The first four months of its production will fall into the "M 50th anniversary" period so expect the initial run to become somewhat collectible.
  • And the new dashboard will be standard from day one.

I can't tell from the photo but it looks like there are M mirrors on it? Also the wheel gap is surprisingly minimal.

Yeah it's really confusing with what appears to be a power dome and M mirrors on this and other spy pics of an M440i. Not sure what to make of that either unless BMW is going all in on whoring out M everything.
