Looking at M2 Competition

I’ve been looking at used M2C, 2019-2020, and have a question for M2 owners. I’ve noticed that many of these 3 year old cars already have 4 owners with only 15,000 to 30,000 miles on them. That is raising a red flag to me as what is causing people to only own one of these cars for 6-8 months and then trading them in? Is something wrong with them? They get great reviews, I’ve been able to drive one example, 12,000 miles, and liked it but I also wasn’t able to drive aggressively. Got a feel for the power but not in a corner but just in a straight. Is it due to having a too loose feeling backend? Something else. This trend has been for both the manual and the auto. Five M2’s for sale near me, 3 manual and 2 auto, all have 4 owners. Seems very strange to me. Of course I still have my 2002 MCS with only 80k miles, so I might be an outlier.

Lots of people were able to buy one, drive for a few years and sell for more than they paid.

A lot of these cars are weekend cars and that lends itself to more owners at lower mileage. Of course it's always preferred to find a one owner example just because that's easier for resale and there should be plenty of options out there that get that done. But number of owners is not indicative of a problem car on this platform. This might be one of BMW's most reliable M cars ever.

There's nothing wrong with them! I've had mine from new and done 58,000 miles using it all year round with winter wheels and tyres in the winter months. Outside of the M5 CS they're the best recent M car in my opinion so go ahead and get yourself a great car!

yup, the car is a weekend toy for most people. not a daily driver. you see the same thing with ferraris and 911s. 10k miles and 3-4 owners.

Daily here!

I totally get you're only generalizing and you're correct. Just wanted to rep the few of us that do haha.
