Dinan Intercooler Installed

Some fabricating but nothing too complicated. Satisfying work.

Cutting the front brace for this intercooler is just a flat out no for me. Plenty of plug and play options out there.

Really not hard at all and I really enjoy these kind of projects.
I guess it's all about a persons skill level.

No, it's not that at all. I wasn't questioning your install and skill level, you did a great job, just do not see the purpose of compromising the structural integrity of the front brace to fit this IC.

Is it really that “structural”?

If you ever get the chance to touch the brace firsthand, what does it really do? It's thin as hell supported by some rivets. Dinan said the same thing, I've removed mine for the ER intercooler (replaced with Wagner now).

Can be easily bent with no force at all.

how long does it take to install one of these aftermarket IC? I have a Wagner on the way, but I figure they are probably all about the same in terms of install time, give or take 15-20 mins. Also, does the bumper HAVE to come off?

I don't know about the Wagner.
Mine took about six hours. Taking the bumper off take about 15 minutes. It makes things so much easier when installing.
Sorry, are you taking about the plastic or the aluminum? For this, yes, both.

For the Wagner no you don't need to remove the bumper, no reason to.

For Dinan/ER you do have to remove it.

Removing the bumper takes a little longer than 15 minutes...

I'd say 2 hours or less, if you're installing charge pipes a little more. Helps to have a second hand too.

I've installed both ER and Wagner myself at home.

Took me about 2.5-3 hours for the CSF intercooler. That is without taking the front bumper off and with trying to install a new charge pipe that ended up being the wrong one so I had to take that back off. If I did it again I think I would just take the front bumper off as lining up the intercooler took the longest as you are trying to get it squeezed past some lines and such while supporting the weight of the new IC all while lining it up with the charge pipes and mounting holes.

I though he was speaking of the alum. bumper which is 15 min. The plastic takes about an hour and a half if you have power tools.

got quoted 3-4 hours to install FMIC, Charge, boost, inlet pipes and intake. they said it is actually faster to take the bumper off, but i wasn't sure. I could do the intake myself, but I figure they are doing all the other stuff anyway. So seems like they are right there in the ball park.

Could have little to no effect, just don't like cut stuff out if at all possible. They engineered that way for a reason and in the grand scheme if things, flimsy or not, it has to play a roll IMO. The did adopt that part from the F80/82 after all.

I don't think the CSF IC requires this cutting, correct me if I'm wrong.

Which intake? If you can, I'd just do the intake yourself...it is incredibly easy. I've installed one on the M2 about 8 times LOL. Save money if you can...even though they'll remove it haha.

Eventuri. I can def do myself, but they will have everything pulled apart anyway, so they can just throw it in, I think he quoted me 15 mins for that.

This IC is massive compared to the stock. Hence, fabrication is a must.
