I really don’t know what it is about this car…….

Sometimes I get really mad with my OG. Occasionally it’s when having to drive over bad city roads with its stiff chassis, but mostly it’s the annoying 1-2 gear shift that one has to deal with at every traffic light. I’m always having to manage the cars behind me when pulling away from a stop cos 99% of them are auto and their drivers expect that I’m driving one too. Multiple times in a day, I’d be like, I’m letting go of this car cos I just can’t stand this anymore.
But every time push has come to shove, I find myself holding on to it.
I passed on a beautiful, Miami blue, 718 GT4 at list price cos I couldn’t let go of the M2.
I chose the M2 over an ND2 Miata when I had to select one.
I was so sure I’d be getting the G87 as its gonna be the last manual transmission, RWD, internal combustion engine car from BMW M (no brainer for a keepsake right?) but I just can’t bring myself to make that trade.

And yet, I can’t state exactly what it is about the car that makes it so hard to let go off.

There is no beating a DCT in stop and go traffic. Like you, I got tired of the constant stop and go first and second gear routine. That is why I switched to a DCT.

I cant get past this " I passed on a beautiful, Miami blue, 718 GT4 at list price cos I couldn’t let go of the M2."

I would throw my M2 in a river for that car.

It's not the car, it's your use of it, the situation. I'm a "6MT or nothing" type of guy, but I have to admit that the DCT would work better for you in your situation. Regardless of the traffic, I'm full-on in love with my OG M2, and there is no way I'd trade it for a 718 (maybe because I have an Exige as well).

I feel for you bro, I do, DCT feels like trash compared to the 6MT, but if the situation demands...

I got flack for going DCT. One of the first questions I am asked actually.

I love the anti theft device as much as any of you but you've never driven in Tokyo traffic. I used to twin-plate a GT-R and that was a f***ing nightmare when the expressways were bricked and part of the reason I walk with a limp.

I like my LCI M2 just fine but, yeah, the 718 GT4 is on another planet. Makes the M2 feel like a big laggy limousine. GT4 was 3x the money, so there is that.

I definitely have those days too, sometimes I wish I got a F80 just for the street comfort but the OG M2 is just such a fun little car.

Just did my CDV delete yesterday and it completely fixed my 1-2 shift. Before I would have to actually think about getting it smooth but now its effortless. I also did the auto solutions ssk, feels like a different car!

i don’t get it….
my 1st and 2nd gear routine is much faster than 99% of people at a red light!
those automatic driver has a 5sec delay after the light turn green, really annoying. 😂

i love driving manual!!! manual forever! ( knock on woood, hopefully no health or other issue in the future preventing me from enjoying manual transmission)

I really need to do the CDV delete. I got the car 2 weeks ago and am getting annoyed by the clutch coming out of 1st and the 1-2 shift. Did you fish it out of your existing slave cylinder or replace with the e9x slave cylinder? I am thinking of just buying a new F87 slave cylinder, taking out the CDV, and having a shop install it to make things easier for them.

Even with the CDV the car is fantastic though.

Just used a wood screw to pull out the cdv from my existing slave, was really easy. Then pressure bled the clutch. Think its more work to change the whole slave imo.

You are giving me hope. I picked up my m2c 6MT 3 weeks ago and I detest the 1>2 shift (enough i question my choice). I can totally relate to the earlier comment about being slow at the stop light.

Do it! It completely solved it for me, can actually feel the clutch engage now and the AS shifter is a nice bonus!
