I would prefer a Cayman with a NA 3.8 Flat6 making 400 PS over a FI Flat4 making that same power.

I wholeheartedly agree...but you and I know that Porsche would never let that happen. The Cayman is a superior platform compared to the 911.
The only way that I could see that happening (400 hp flat 6) is if they do an RS model, the last hurrah for this current chassis/design of the Cayman/Boxster.

I have a can of black plasti dip waiting to cover them up

It's a lease so it must be returned back as given. Actually, the M badges blacked out are not so bad to look at either. I will refer to it as the M "Black" Edition

Most important things on my wish list are:
  • 6 cylinder engine: this is a "condicio sine qua non" (S55 would be a dream, N55 acceptable)
  • no turbo lag (in fact I would prefer no turbo at all but I realise that's impossible)
  • manual gearbox
  • at least 350 euro hp
  • at least 50 kg lighter than M4
  • oil temp indication
  • LSD

I also have some suggestions:
  • please please please... BMW give me a possibility to deactivate Active Sound. If not I have to destroy the speakers
  • possibility to deactivate start-stop function

Thank you

you jest my friend, you jest.

Everything I would want has been covered collectively - my real wish is to have more definite answers in terms of:

- timeline, as in when will this be available?
- production timeline and volume (limited vs. normal for an M car)
- approximate cost (yes, I know we can get to a ballpark, but I gotta start saving )

No idrive.
No active sound.
No moonroof or a CF roof.
Beefy axle and half-shafts.
Solid bushings everywhere.
Finned LSD.
Wider track - arched fenders.
Alcantara? Cloth seats in US? at least perforated sensatec? is an inexpensive interior too much to ask for? Sweaty rear and back to hot summers because of unbreathable leather or fauxleather is not comfortable, nor stylish.

My ideal M2:
Not too picky on engine, but must be reliable
6 MT
Nice color - bring back Imola Red please. But would take Sakhir Orange or YMB
Extensive CF like the M4 - absolutely on the roof, CSL style trunk
Cloth seats
Fender flares
Quad exhaust

Only option would be Bluetooth and alarm.

I'd be insanely happy with that. This would be the first car I ever buy new.

M2 musts:
- 1300kgs
- N55 os S20 (>350HP)
- mech LSD
- ceramic brake option
- MT only
- No adaptive suspension
- quad pipes (although all ///M's have this as std)
- boost & oil/water temps via iDrive

No need for electronic gizmos, keep it simple & a cheap driver's car, else buy an M4.

N/A engine, I know I'm dreaming but...

3.6L I-6
8500 redline
Direct Injection
~380hp & ~310 lb.ft

M-DCT
3100 lbs or less
Electric power steering that DOESNT suck like in the regular 2 series.

You need to go drive the latest 911

Focus on weight savings - lighter than the 1M. 3300 lbs with driver, options, fuel would be very impressive. However with the rumors that the M4 is weighing in at 3550 without a driver this may be too much to ask for at the given price point. I wish this wasn't going to be the "entry-level" sports car for BMW. I'd pay the price of an m3/m4 for a true compact lightweight sports car from BMW.

No bigger than the 1M

Min 350hp although 370-380 would be most welcome

A 6MT gearbox that does not force auto-rev matching on the driver!!! If it must be included then please give us the option to turn it off.

I haven't. But, we all know that Porsche hinders the Cayman for a reason. Mid-engine is superior to rear engine...Porsche made the 911 GT1 mid-engined for a reason.

But, I will go test drive the latest 911 when i get a chance.

Yeah the new 911 is a wonderful car. The Cayman just needs an engine swap then it all simply comes to life in way you may have never imagined.

Some of these lists are ridiculous.

It's pretty clear that it'll be something along these lines:
1) DCT or 6MT option
2) N55TO engine -- TO desgination to be determined. Likely a few tweaks to internals & turbo charger arrangement or hardware to allow for ~370hp
3) Somewhere in the range of 3350 - 3500lbs
4) Mechanical LSD, possibly with the electronic torque vectoring from other models
5) Upgraded brakes compared to the M235i. Possibly carbon ceramics but I would assume the take-rate would be extremely small so maybe not.
6) I would bet on a carbon fiber roof and other weight savings materials but not to the extent of the M3/M4. I wouldnt expect a carbon fiber driveshaft for example.
7) Standard suite of driver aids (HUD) & comfort access hardware. Hopes of a striped down model I think are somewhat mute given the demographic and precedent of other models
8) Increased engine cooling for the N55 - oil coolers, increased radiator capacity, etc. to vent the additional heat from the uprated engine

I'd venture to guess it'll land in the $55 - 60K range once optioned.
