Annoying seatbelt reach?

Hi Everyone.

Test drove a few m2c's and have a question about the seatbelt.

The natural resting location of the seatbelt is way back at the B pillar, and when you're in a proper driving position (I have my seat positioned like my track instructor educated me to, elbows 50% bent, knees bent, for maximum ability to engage wheel/pedals with your muscles and stay mentally engaged, it ends up being a lot closer than all the fully leaned back, wrist over top brotards haha).

Previously in my BRZ, it had a little leather strap that snapped to the upper side bolster to hold the seatbelt within easy reach. This car seems to be in need of something similar.

Do you all just pull your side muscles to turn around and grab it, or have another solution?

I just grab it. No big deal. Every BMW I have had has been the same.

I'd rather reach for it than have that stupid E92 motorized seat belt extender arm. (Did any other BMW coupes have this "feature"?)

Start at 4:07 (if I put the ?t=247, the video doesn't appear to embed)

Just use your left arm to grab it underneath rather than over your shoulder. In other words, put your left hand down between the door and the seat bottom and grab it down low. That's why I have done in every coupe I've owned over the years.

+1, use your left arm and grab underneath. Takes getting use to, but will become second nature and will work with all cars going forward.

I use my left arm and grab it high up - I'm almost 6'5" though.
Reaching for it with my right hand does suck though.

I had a BRZ and I know exactly what you're talking about.

It took some time getting used to but I reach back with my left arm to grab the seatbelt in the M2.

It sucks but you get used to it. Still prefer it over the mechanical arm on the E92

For Left hand drive cars: Palm up, elbow towards windshield, left hand grab and handoff to the right hand.

Loved the seat belt extender on the E92. It's even better in the F32/F82; it's been updated to present the belt even quicker now, which is how it should have been to begin with. Too bad the 2er didn't get it.

I had that in my E92 and loved it. Passengers usually thought it was cool too. The only downside I noticed was that occasionally it would miss the belt but that was rare.

Took me almost a year to learn, but definitely grab underneath and not over the shoulder, makes it so much easier.

Use the left hand as well - to grab the seat-belt. Roll cage makes it a bit annoying sometimes, but still easier than trying to twist and reach over with the right.

I have no idea if this would help (or even fit), but at least it's an idea?

There is a hook behind the front seats where u can leave the belt when u take it off so you don't have to reach all the way when putting it on

I have a very simple solution - drop your arm DOWN by your side towards the door sill and do a backhand grab. No twisting and no stress on the shoulder this way!

I always thought that thing was such an admission of failure on BMW's part (even though it works). Like they couldn't have come up with a more elegant solution than that after all these years of building cars. FAIL
