New to BMW - Acronyms
I am new to the BMW world coming from American muscle cars; most recently a 2018 Camaro 1LE. Loving my 2017 M2! It provides the refinement I never knew I desired so much.
I am running into some acronyms I am unable to find the meaning for such as 'OG' and 'LCI'. If someone can steer me in the right direction I would appreciate it. |

Welcome to the forum, Gabhart from a fellow RTP resident.
OG, as I understand it, is unique to this forum and stands for "Original Generation" to differentiate cars from the 2019 model year "Competition" model. LCI is a BMW term meaning Life Cycle Impulse, which in English means a mid-cycle design update. So it's the same chassis identifier, but the marketing department got a'hold of the car and tweaked the styling a bit, maybe increase horsepower a smidgen to sell more cars before they change the whole thing.

OG = Original M2. Model produced between 2016-2018. Has older interior and a few minor exterior differences from new one.
LCI = Stands for Life-Cycle Impulse and refers to the refreshed version of a model. In the case of the M2, the LCI refers to both the N55 and S55 based engine model. Both have upgraded aesthetics from OG M2. M2 LCI vs M2C = Different engine, sport seats, M-Mirrors and a few other differences ( I know people will argue that M2C should not be part of LCI variant but in terms of car model and on realoem, it's listed as an M2 LCI) |

Thanks guys! Makes better sense now. Guess I'm a little behind the times with my 2017 but I'm happy none the less.

For the M2 the LCI is generally in reference to the 2018 models only. The previous 16 and 17 models are the OG, and 2019+ are Competition models.
Of course the 2019+ models also have the LCI updates, but they also have the bigger change of getting a different engine, which defines the 2019+ models. |
