Hello Folks

Back in the old (E46) days i used to be "the" guy to ask about hacking nav systems (NavCoder, etc.), modifing splash screen and many other of these things... (bmw.houbi.ch)

yes it seems i'm getting sentimental since i'm going to give away my E46 very soon....

The next hacks will be to run alternative operating systems on the car "radios", IMO.

Mazda stuff already runs Android internally, and hackers have been messing around with those. I have no idea what iDrive runs on - I'm guessing maybe QNX but I have no idea.

There waa actually a lot possible with the old navs. Heck we even coded radar warners directly into bmw nav... :-)

We need somebody to become "the guy" to hack iDrive to put real gauges on the screen like oil and intake temps, etc., and whatever else you can imagine. I don't think anyone else has figured it out.
