I have first gen MPE and the stupid thing has been unreliable as far as controlling the valves go. They randomly close for no reason, usually in less than 5 minutes. That defeats the point of having valves if they keep closing during my spirited drives.
I just took car in for maintenance (oil) and complained about it again and told them I have video of it since the last time I took it in, they returned it and said they couldn't replicate it. (which is B.S. since it does it every damn time and is really easy to replicate) I got a call yesterday and they're replacing it. They said the exhaust was cracked too. Excellent! Oh and off-topic for this thread but I complained about my nearly $80k (with tax+options) bimmer sounding like a beater due to rocks in my brakes. They mentioned an updated shield that they're going to install for free to fix this. They said it completely got rid of the problem on the few other cars they put this on. Sweet! |

WTF? Gonna have to break out my instruments and figure out how to make this permanently "enabled" if my replacement MPE has this button. (my gen1 does not)

So I thought mine exhibited this awhile back and ever since I said that I would keep an eye on it....zero occurrences for me! I've been driving about 80% in Track mode and really paying attention if goes back to normal street mode, but nope. Can't repro it now. Very weird.

He just says that he attends to move the button to the inside. For sure only for practical reasons, because his trunk is always full with stuff so he could not reach the button if it is placed there...
I heard already about another solution by bridging two pins (black with black or grey with brown) in the connector for this button, which allows that the remote is permanently working because the button is bypassed. Afaik in the 2er forum there was somebody telling that solution. Found it: http://www.2ertalk.de/topic/2467-bmw...08#entry107426 I think simply cutting the cables to the connector and extending them to place the button inside sounds good for me...and this is something everybody can do... Welcome to European regulations ! Just be thankful you, as a Brit, will soon be out of it ! I've heard that, for 2018, the button will be situated behind the front wheel, necessitating the jacking up of the car, removal of the wheel, pressing the button, putting the wheel back on and jacking down the car.... all that having read a 39 page warning leaflet that driving with the valves open can cause up to 25,321 heart attacks to local pensioners and socialists.

So the dealership said they found a crack in my exhaust and they weren't able to replicate the problem but since I had a video proving the issue does exist, they replaced the controller and remote. I now have an MPE that works as advertised. I'm super happy and really pleased with Baron BMW.
If yours is doing this, go complain! Get it on video. Use those surveys if you have to. (I didn't have to do this, they were just super willing to try to fix my issues) |

So what is the best solution, to bridge it? or get it extended into the cabin? i'm getting mine fitted on Wednesday? like i don't want to be getting out of my car to go press a red button... that's absolutely ludicrous.

So did they fix the bluetooth issues with the second gen MPE? I am considering it but if it is a pain to deal with then it will be a deal breaker.

IMO the whole idea of the MPE and bluetooth actuator is stupid. BMW should just do what Porsche does and make a FACTORY exhaust option and have a button in the damn car already. BMW is trying to hide the fact that this stuff is really still aftermarket with their branding but it's designed by outside contractors and it shows.
