2015 M3 vs 2017 M2 manual transmission difference?

Does any one know if the f80 M3 and m2 have the same transmission specs and clutch? I have driven an F80 for a while and it was modified but clutch felt very heavy even though it was claimed to be stock clutch. I just test drove a friends m2 and the clutch felt lighter and much easier to engage. I ask because I am considering one for daily use, but was leaning towards DCT in an M2, but now I feel the manual M2 is totally daily driveable. Anyone know if there is any spec difference between these 2 car transmissions?

I don't think there's been really any advancement with the 6 spd. I've been daily driving a manual since 2010 and the Im glad I went with the DCT. There's something about those hard up shifts and down shifts that just addicting.

Most people complain about how light the clutch is in the F80/F82 also, so maybe the mods or fluid had some effect in the M3 that you drove. I haven't driven a 6MT M3 or M4 so I can't say.

They should be the same as in the M2.

The transmissions are the same. The clutch engagement point is different though. I had a '15 M4 and a '17 M2. The first couple of miles were "messy" every time that I switched from one car to the other because of the difference in the clutch engagement points between the cars.

BTW - very light clutches from the factory

I briefly owned a 6MT 2015 F82 M4 and have had my 6MT 2017 OG M2 for 2 years now. The clutch engagement effort from what I recall is very similar. My thinking is that the F80 you drove may have been an outlier in some way, clutch-effort-wise.

Sometimes there can be variances from car to car, sometimes people remember things a little differently than actuality, and sometimes it's a placebo effect of driving something shiny and new that has to be better in your mind. I saw someone in the M2C forum say that M2C manual feels much improved from the OG M2. Maybe he drove a really bad example of the OG M2 or his memory has deceived him as the OC M2 and M2C transmissions are identical right down to the clutch pedal.

Should be the same, they drive the same to me between my 2016 M3, 2017 M2 and my new 2019 M2C.

I second The Placebo Effect. There is no other logical explanation for a part-sharing model BMW uses.

Two separate soups are going to taste the same if they contain identical ingredients, even if they're served in separate dishes.

Don't have a MT but having read a number of posts about the m2, m2c, m3 and m4 it sounds to me like there is just variance from one BMW MT to the next, so basically it's a roll of the dice on how it feels and how it acts.

I've found that all of my cars shift better, are faster, and the suspension works better, after I wash them.

Same part numbers for all components in the M2/M3/M4 ZF 6MT. Even the M240 uses the same exact 6MT, though the flywheel and clutch are different. The same ZF 6MT is used in the M235 too; however, the M2/M3/M4 6MT uses a stronger 1-2 and 2-3 syncro.

Hate to say this... but it's actually true. I literally do feel like my car drives better after a wash and vacuuming the interior..

I owned both, and both were a light clutch, so the M3 was possibly faulty?

The only difference was the sitting position in the M2 made the clutch travel seem a little shorter in my seating position, because you sit more upright in the M2.

With rev-matching & hill hold the manual transmission is a breeze to drive and if you are considering it, I would advise to go with the manual transmission.
Good luck!
