Hill Parking With M-DCT
Coming from Honda manuals, and then 6 years of VW DSGs, I'm still getting used to my new-to-me DCT M2 of 2 weeks.
Today I parallel parked on a decline hill and was surprised by how much it rolled forward despite being in reverse and giving it gas. Eventually got it done with the aid of the parking brake, but not before scaring the lady in the Prius in front of me. I figure it's a combination of the sluggish throttle response in Comfort (do the modes affect the throttle response in Reverse?), and no hill-assist when facing downhill? |

No hill assist on DCT as far as I know. I have a DCT 135i and it does the same thing. I just feather the brake with my left foot until the car is moving or use the parking brake like you did. A little annoying, but works fine.

The DCT has hill assist but it seems only in certain instances for my experience. If I'm on a incline hill and press the brake, then release, it will hold. If I come up to the incline and slow down without fully braking, it will roll back like a manual gearbox. I've never parallel parked on the decline, so I'm not sure how that would work in reverse, but I've backed up my driveway, which is slopped and don't remember the car rolling back.

The car will hold the brake for 3 seconds with both DCT and 6MT, on inclines, declines, and flat ground, but this will only happen if you come to a complete stop first. My assumption is that you didn't completely stop while parallel parking.

That's weird, I could've sworn I came to a complete stop first before attempting to reverse back. It caught me completely by surprise not only cause it didn't hill-assist me, but because it kept going forward even with me giving it some gas in reverse.

That's the thing I like about the DCT over the DSG in my GLI. The DSG just feels like a funky automatic with it's weird "creeping" feature when you let off the gas. It makes for a rather jerky start at each stop light, especially if you stop briefly and need to accelerate instantly.

Not so. Press brake and release. Presto, hill holder. Does not matter which way is up or down. Even works on flat.
