I have a 6, 4 and 3 year old. Honda Pilot works great for us. 3 car seats in the 2nd row, it's safe and reliable, great awd system, decent hp for that segment, and almost 30mpg on the highway can't beat that.

Those saying minivan is a must with 3+ kids, don't know how to pack the car efficiently.

I am not insecure, actually i just finished a pedicure with my wife. just dont feel offended if i knock your taste. i am looking for a car that suits my taste and style and fits my family comfortably. whats wrong with a full size suv, the x5 did a great job with two kids. So i am hoping to find the same style but in a bigger class and the X7 isnt something i want to spend money on.

I posted this thread to see which will work better, thats all and the more i research i do the escalade with captain chairs looks good

hope that makes sense, i had a minivan growing up, so its nice, just not what i am into.
Tahoe with captain chairs might work also but I also would just put my kids in the trunk if I had any so I could cruise by the high school like old times.
hahaha then you need a tesla.

3 kids here, got the X5 with 3rd row. Quite honestly the trunk is not that big even with the 3rd seats folded down, but 95% of the times it does everything I need it to. It's an awesome highway cruiser, love taking it on road trips. A hitch will also give you great versatility when you need it.

With that said there are great deals going on the Lexus GX460, might want to take a look at those. For the money I think you can't beat.

Have you seen the GX460? The only thing uglier is the Infiniti QX80! At least i wouldnt have spent 50-95K and still not want to be seen in it!

I'd rather the minivan!

You can go bigger but for the money and the residual on the lease with the fully loaded version we have been happy. I have been in the same monthly payment for the past 8 years with three different fully loaded pilots. Wife ultimately wants a suburban but that's for running the kids and their friends around. Btw once you get out of rear facing seats things get better. We have actually taken the f80 on a couple road trips and all three have been good in the back seat.
Ive had 2 pilots and 2 odysseys and honestly i would never go back to a pilot. The odyssey is where its at. Go minivan im telling u there will be no regrets. I still have mine and was hesitant like you in the beginning

Right now I am thinking a supercrew pickup like a ford raptor or getting a 3rd row suv like an escalade.

what are your guys thoughts?
Crew cab truck!
I have 3 kids too

Ram, ford or Chevy all similar imo
Good for every day family needs, more than a few friends will need borrow it I'm sure...
Brother has 3 kids too, his Denali is luxury like the Escalade overkill for a young family small kids don't mix with air conditioned seats that will get apple juice/milk spilled into, with a truck who the F cares, let them be messy, get a x7 when they get older

Your original post simply asked what we found to work well with three kids, so many of us answered. Compared to minivans, there are several downsides to SUVs and pickups we alluded to in response: harder to load, less usable interior space, often paying for capabilities (speed, offroading, towing) that you don't actually need day-to-day. While I can certainly appreciate your reasons for not wanting a minivan, the fact is most people that ask the "need a family vehicle but don't like minivans" question are people who are fully in the "derp-a-derp minivans are lame" mindset - thus our responses.

All of this doesn't mean that getting 3 kids into an SUV or supercrew truck is not possible. Certainly it is and people do it all the time. That doesn't remove the fact that these are NOT the ideal vehicle for the stated purpose of carting 3 small children around.

Luckily, you are the one who gets to make the final decision on what your next car will end up being. Happy shopping!

Speaking of Dodge the new RAM is pretty sweet. I have never been a fan of the RAM but the new one may make me change my mind. The new GM Silverado/Sierra on the other hand, it's like GM didn't even try.

We have a Yukon and love it, but only two kids at the moment.

We recently had some service done so we were in a rental minivan for two days. Aside from the crappy handling, gutless power, and crappy sound system. It did its job well... transporting kids. It was so convenient!! My wife and I are anti minivan. I have to admit getting eveyone in and out was so easy!

That's not what I said though. With 3 kids you can do Pilot or X5 med-large SUV with 3rd row.I was specifically referring to a minivan vs the Uber SUV, Expeditions, Escalade's etc, big 7 and 8 seaters.
