You guys are insane, if you want the roof get an M4 that already has it and was built in FACTORY(where all they do is BUILD the cars)...this procedure for a new car is crazy.

This is a baby M, it's not suppose to have everything that the older sibling come with......at that point you aren't really saving much money over an M4.

I feel some people have more money then sense!

Some rather have a shorter wheelbase and smaller footprint of the M2. Installing aftermarket carbon roofs is nothing new. Now you can get the panel from the dealer with a warranty.

Looks really like BMW wanted to show that they can offer serious aftermarket parts but does it that complicated to hold you off from actually installing them...likely in 2 years you will see all those as options on order for the next M2
I stand by my theory. Launch is July, roof is November, they want the launch models to not feel like they are losing out. Soon, it will come from the factory. Obvious $$$ maker !!

Except lots of people like the way the m2 drives and therefore want to add things such as a carbon roof.

Not everyone wants an M2 just to save money over an M4.

Not a bad theory and would be right in line with the progress of the M2.

Progress...
2016 - M2
2017 - M2 Performance Edition
2017 - M2 LCI
2018 - M2 Black Shadow Edition
2018 - M2 Competition

Further progress (Coming soon...)
2019 - M2 Competition w/cf roof (f87.bimmerpost.com mini meltdown)
2019 - M2 CS (f87.bimmerpost.com total meltdown)

50% increase in msrp for the CS badge is the biggest ripoff in BMW lineup. No way in hell am I buying a $90k M2. Would get a GT4 all day long. M4 owners don’t give two sh*ts about the CS models, no forum meltdown at all.

Not. A. Chance.

Huge miss by BMW not to offer these parts, or at least some of them, as factory install.

12 hours from the local dumbass to install my roof PLUS new front and rear glass? GTFO.

Except that the M4 is a boat and the M2 is the right size for a sports car.
That's why most of us want it - not because it's the "entry level baby".
Yes, it's great bang for the buck, and that drives the decision too, but I've been saying this for a long time: if the M2 and M4 cost the same, i'd still get the M2, even though the M4 has more features.

Dont forget your size disclaimer or you will get 20 posts about weight. People don’t realize most buying the M2C could easily get a M4 or M3. Leases are actually cheaper. Some want a physically smaller car.

Is anyone really sure that this is an easy factory upgrade that wouldn't affect the production line?

BMW probably doesn't want to end up in the same position Ford was in with the Focus RS and have to send the vehicle to a separate modification center to finish installing everything that couldn't be done on the production line.

Yep, its bad to turn nice competition parts (costing a lot) into potential nightmare experience ... they should be for selection in car BMW configurator and installed at manufacture before car is delivered ... my god this seems so obvious, but not for our dear german enginneers :

I guess it's an unreasonable expectation to look for a Steering Wheel Pro with an orange center mark? If you're buying that wheel you'd want the blue-accent interior to match that wheel's blue center mark. Even better if there was no center mark at all IMO.

More people like this please, then at least my car is more special. They cannot deal with this at the factory due to the fact that you have to change the paint booths, supply chains and whatever more.

This is way more expensive than the few people that are going to opt for this option. I can tell you that the business case for changing the factory processes will never out way the people choosing it on the option list.

Only reason I see them changing it, is if they introduced the CS at the end of 2019 as a limited run with the roof, but then the price of car pays for the fitment factory based... That means a 95K-100K EUR M2.

Smells like this was rushed. Just like the original M2 and even the M2C which have signs of a hack job in some ways. it's also what makes them great.
