How did/does the a45 amg drive? It’s a 2 liter twin scroll right? A friend of mine was looking at the cla amg 45. Is Mercedes running extremely high boost all the time? To get similar tq and hp? I read somewhere it runs at 1.8 bar which is 25-26 psi or something. That’s seems really high.
Just curious |

I was an a45 driver until I replaced it with 2017 M2 LCI 3 days ago. My one was one of the first production vehicle, pre-FL. Obviously in running-in period and 500km on clock now and I have yet to discover the car. During 400km+ sinlge shot travel what I have noticed for now are:
- Bigger, better and lovely engine sound compare to A45. Despite 2.0 engine in A45, AMG covered the "no-engine sound" exceptionally with the incredible exhaust note. I used to have optional AMG performance exhaust so I need to see additional egzaust note to be added with MPE on top of M2 engine noise. - Power delivery seems to be more smooth at M2 while you have a punch and slightly better power kick with A45 after downshifts and/or harder accelaration. I'm not 100% sure on this yet, to check for comparison after run-in. - M2 definitely has better power train and the engine-gearbox works together so well. This becomes very important in daily drive. - M2 has better suspension comfort, I had a chance to drive on exactly the same roads and bumps that I used to drive with A45. Suspension ability/quality on traction? I dont know yet. - Steering wheel at M2 is way stiffer than A45. this is something that I need to get used to. A45 used to have electric supported sterring wheel so in comfort mode and during parking turns etc was softer significantly. M owners told me this is classic BMW/M habit but I'm yet to see its advantages on track or spiritied drive. - Fuel consumption was lower with M2 compare to A45 on this 400km+ trip even I was driving inconsistently (usual running-in: slowing down and speeding up till170km/h, changing gears at 5000/5500rpm). The average consumption was around 11.0lt/100km. If I'd be doing the same with A45, I am sure it will be somewhere between 12.4 - 14lt/100km. - Cabin gives you cockpitwise feeling, like wrapped by car when seated while in A45 no special feeling. Better seats in M2. - One of the most annoying things with A45 was the cabin noise during drive, the exterior wind noise. The insulation in M2 is way better than A45, even at higher speeds nothing disturbs. - What I have surprised with M2 was not seeing "P position" on gearbox lever. I just need to stop the car in R or D, the car swithes to P itself. what I am not sure to do is when I want to stop somewhere with the engine running. So should I bring transmission into N and lock the handbrake? I used to use P position for situations like that. I can update my comments as I have spend more time with car but what I feel to date is no regrets. To me A45 is more aggressive teenager boy while M2 is grown up but athletic guy Last edited by gkellecioglu; 01-09-2018 at 04:53 AM.. |

I think I read it's running the highest boost on a 4 cylinder for a production car. |

A little off topic, but seriously not a fan of this guys videos after watching this video a while back.
Of course a modified A45 will beat a stock manual M2... |

As far as getting out of the car with the engine running you are correct that the method is to put in neutral and pull the handbrake. Pretty annoying. You could turn the car off which puts it in Park and then turn it back on again without putting it in gear, but that is silly. You can get rid of more cabin noise by turning off the artificial engine sound (ASD) by coding it out with apps like Bimmercode or getting a bypass harness installed. |
