Best vid yet imo,a very thorough comparative review and ticks most of the boxes
Enough power to be neck and neck with the M4.The Willow Springs track is probably as good a demonstration as any for me to show what the M2 is like on the street. I can see the throttle blip on the M2 being a problem for some but surely there will be a work around for coding it out. |

Very good way to start the work week!
But also makes the wait even harder! All these reviews have me thoroughly excited because everyone keeps saying how fun the vehicle is. For a vehicle like this I think that should be the main priority. A track like Willow was a great proving ground as well. Plenty of sweeping corners for an even comparison. Very excited to get this car! |

I love how now that the M2 is out, the F8x is shit in everybody's eyes. Lol.
The M2 is going to be just as fast as the M4 on short tracks, this has been proven. It won't outrun the M4 on a long track, that has been proven as well. I'd consider an M2 but I just can't get past some of the cost cutting BMW did to the M2. I would have paid a few more thousand dollars for a CFRP roof and M-Mirrors and a set of decent seats. Where the M4 really shines over the M2 will be in aftermarket tuning as the M2 is still using the same N55 turbo the M235i is equipped with. I'd take the S55 over the N55 any day because of its potential. The M2 will be lucky to see 420whp on the stock turbo. So, the M2 is awesome, but the M4 is still worth the premium. |

Great video, absolutely falling in love with the car.
If I can get over some of the other perceived shortcomings (non-driving related features) in comparison to the M4, I think I would potentially trade in TBH. I think BMW hit the nail on the head with the driving dynamics on this car and I'm totally sold. Jealous of all of you upcoming owners! Can't wait to see more. |

Nice video.
But watching the media cycle through what is in favor when new and then out of favor when the next thing comes out is obvious. That being said, the M2 over-delivers given its rated HP and weight. That's good to see. It appears to get a lot of the performance/fun to drive things right. I'd have ordered one myself but space is an issue for me and the styling of the M3 just won we over. |

Plus the interior quality looks cheap as well. Since my driveway is not a racing track, I rather ride on my refined 2016 M3 all day long (ok, I wished that my M3 was a tad smaller) but still, I would not trade it for a M2.

That's slower than the M235i and 1M guys. Car and Driver got 12.7@113 with the manual.

Interesting note about the seats. I noticed that in my E92 M3 -- not the crookedness of the seat directly, but the fact that my legs skewed to the left as they entered the footwell -- and I thought it was just because the pedals had to be moved to the left a bit due to the width of the transmission tunnel area. It did strike me as odd though.
The auto-blip thing is very disappointing, so much so that I wonder if that will be remedied in an official software update. I thought it was annoying on the F8x that it could only be disabled by using the most aggressive throttle mapping since those two preferences didn't seem linked to me in a driver's mind at all, but tying it to stability control seems even more absurd. That makes it seem like the only reason BMW wanted it to be defeatable at all was so the car could be drifted via clutch dump. The GT4 allows me to toggle auto-blip independently of anything else, and while I admit I've come to like it at the track, I keep it disabled on the road because as this review said, sometimes it's about doing it yourself rather than having it done perfectly. It also doesn't have a bunch of steering and throttle settings, which I enjoyed having on my E92 but have found that I don't miss on the GT4, I guess because they got their one setting exactly right. Still, I would love to drive one of these, and if I hadn't been able to get a GT4 and didn't already have or wasn't going to be keeping my E92 M3 otherwise, this is absolutely the car I would buy.

On top of variations in ambient temperature, pavement type, engine/turbo temperature, tire condition, etc, doesn't C&D use a rolling start?

Thinking about the disappointing auto-blip implementation more, I wonder if BMW did it out of concern over the engine's torque relative to the transmission's durability. Making it defeatable at all means sideways drift videos like this one can continue to be made, but requiring DSC off to get there definitely ensures that auto-blip will be on the vast majority of the time, and the people who regularly have it off will likely be more experienced drivers. I remember some video about either the F10 M5 or F8x M4 showing someone important in BMW saying that if manuals were to continue to be offered in modern BMWs with their increasing horsepower and torque, then measures like this would need to be implemented to protect the driveline against damage from careless/ignorant drivers. And actually (I guess to make BMW's case), a couple weeks ago a prospective E92 M3 owner posted a few questions on M3Post, and it came up that he'd been driving manuals for 16 years after just teaching himself with seat time -- and consequently he'd never even heard of rev matching. He's now kicking himself for missing out on a lot of fun those years and has redoubled his efforts to find a 6MT E9x to make up for lost time.
Or there's the conspiracy theory that BMW is deliberately taking more fun out of the manual transmission so that even the manual enthusiasts eventually won't want it anymore, at which point BMW can finally switch to DCT-only for engineering and manufacturing simplicity.
