Gerard,

My requirements for a car are that I can have fun on the streets and I can hold my own at autocross events. I got into the F80 M3 with DCT in 2015 as I knew the shifts were going to be faster than humanly possible and I was not good at threshold braking and blip down shifting in my E36 M3. Now in autocross, that's not a concern as you mostly shift from 1st to 2nd then keep it in 2nd (autocross that I do is on an old runway and never long enough to get into 3rd). I was doing track days in my E36 M3 but these days my preference is autocross as it's less wear on the car and it's timed.

The S55 in the M3/4 is stronger than the N55 for sure - you are really swimming in power - more than enough. In fact the 2016 that I had even with an update to the firmware put down power in an unpredictable manner - at least with all the throttle response settings and those turbos. 400+ is a lot and when naturally aspirated I'm sure is a lot more manageable. But with the turbos, in conjunction with the electronic systems to manage throttle response, I was often left wondering what would happen when I pushed a little harder. That was an unsettling enough feeling for me to not be concerned with going to less power in the N55. I've also been amazed at how good the exhaust note is with the N55.

So for me, and we all have our unique needs and tastes, the N55 M2 is the perfect balance of fun on the streets and not so much power that you are apprehensive or second guessing yourself.

Hope this helps. I'm sure M has tuned the S55 to suit the M2 chassis well so this isn't an apples to apples comparison but for my needs, the M2 is the whole package with the N55. Like I said I'm sure they were very careful to keep that magical quality even after the engine change. But unless your going to regularly be going over 80 mph for long stretches (think grand tourer) or doing open driver ed. track days, you will never need or use the power available in the S55.

Congrats, i m also from Montreal.

A month ago, i was looking for a LBB but didnt wanted to deal with the shipping. At that time, only one was available in Ontario and ended taking a BSM manual instead.

Love the car .. watch out for speeding tockets.. that car is stupidly fast and as soon as you put your ass in the seat, it take your leg and press the pedal so much.. you can't control it *

Thanks for the tip! Yesterday, my father in law was sitting on the passenger’s side in a parking lot and two cops walked by and asked him to lower his window...to tell him how much they liked the cars’ color! (no kidding)

Congratulations Sir! The M2 is an awesome machine, I've had mine since May 2017 and I could not be happier.

Park Shore is a great dealer btw, I bought my 335is there!

Happy motoring!

I love my DCT M2. It's a huge improvement over my slightly tuned E92 335 that I had for 11 years. The only thing that sort of disappoints me is that my e92 felt faster, 380-390 bhp. The M2 should feel faster. But it could also be that the M2 delivers much more linear and predictable whereas the e92 was a little jumpy with the turbo kicking in later..

Well, it's still powerful enough and a great driving experience.

Congrats on the M2!

I drove an M2 6mt for the very first time today. I was very impressed with the car. The driving dynamics felt a bit better than my M4.
