I don't understand why people think they will get a discount for paying cash..?

The dealer wants you to finance through them.

Lease rates for the M2 were always expected to be crap. BMW set a precedent with the low volume 1M and many of us expected they'd follow suit again. Back then it was cheaper to lease an M3 than a 1M. Not surprising history repeats itself. Is it because they want to squeeze more money out of you or because they want enthusiasts to own it? Both sound like pure conjecture.
I've been leasing or buying bmw's for myself and my company with the same CA for almost 20 years- trust me, it is the same thing every time a new M car or AMG comes out.

Pricing will catch up with supply. it is not a limited run like the 1M.

The only way I got my 2015 M3 in 2014 was my CA pulled strings and re-allocated a BMW Demo car close to my build and transferred it my name. Instead of waiting for 3-4 months for a build, I got it in 2 weeks. There have been no M3's in stock for most of last year in southern CA.

M2's are probably being built in one factory in Germany and it is going to take months to build enough for the entire world. They're going to make as many as they can.

M4 GTS cannot be leased at all

BMW will be HAPPY to lease you an M3/M4 or an M235 for probably a much better deal than an M2 because those are their mass market vehicles.

1M, M2, M4 GTS are cars that are designed for track use and are speciality niche cars. You don't cheapen these cars by making them lease deals like a Honda Civic or Acura ILX
I believe the M4 GTS will be able to be leased. I was looking at a bulletin today and I am 99% sure it can be. Will check back tomorrow.

No. The same horrible numbers came out in 2011 for the 1M so... Take the hint and BUY an M2 or F&@k off and buy an M3/M4.
Buying is roughly the same monthly payment depending on down payment. At the 2.99% (as stated by Golfrr), with $5000 down for 60 months it is about $941 a month. Not far off from the $984 for the lease.

Actually worse. When I looked at a TTS a month or two back it was right around the same price, $56k, and leasing out right around $800.

A few things from this thread but only this directed towards you. GTS cannot be leased, owners choice, or select. Just looked at bullitin.

M2 is not a limited run as many others have said. I would wait for a 17 with these rates if you want to lease. Wont 17 bring LCI and touch nav to the 2 or am I off?

And FWIW all the M3/M4 demo cars sold at launch too so that not special. My dealer still has a waiting list 3 months long for an M3 allocation.

Guys its the initial lease rate, you mark my words as time goes on the lease rate will get better, probably near what the M3/4 will be as far as residual.

I remember hearing something like a 30 month run but to stay under the M235 production numbers.

I knew this would be the case. If you are buying it's a great deal, but to lease it's brutal, and very difficult to justify over an f80.

Does that make it easier to burn up half of 55k?

What are the other current lease rates BMW offers? Are they starting to hedge for the auto bubble?

This has got to be the worst lease rates ever. Only justification I see for this (and not that it's morally right) is that BMW knows this car will sell like hot cakes and people will pay up for it so they destroy the residual on paper so you pay more and when you return the car it's worth more than residual on paper. and that's how you double dip

There are still some around - I bought one a few weeks ago at my local dealer, BMW Santa Barbara. At the time there were also 2 available at Steve Thomas, and several at Beverly Hills BMW. However, BMW had horrible lease MF (.0017), and Santa Barbara offered .0010, so I went with them.

Like someone mentioned this residual will get better but it won't go higher than 56-58%. Plus since this is not limited production, you'll be able to get a nice discount from a CA that you've formed a small/large relationship with. The super lucky will get 9-11% off MSRP, then it will average out at about 7% off for smart people.

Let's say with options the MSRP is 59k, you lock in the deal at 54k. With MSDs you can get the lease payments down to $625-$675 a month. I'm pretty sure.

I'm waiting for the M2 CSL Or Comp Pack anyway. That will easily be a $1000 a month. Time will tell...

I don't think you will be seeing any discounts for at least a year. The wait list is so long that the people who are JUST getting on the list for an M2 now will probably be seeing their car late 2017. No need to discount if the demand is still there and supply is still limited?

To be honest, I'm thinking about buying it outright next year. It was more of a general question as I haven't really followed the financial aspects of BMW releases until the M2 came up.

I'm shocked that some of you wanted to rent the car for 2 years and wanted a super awesome deal? Or worse, expected a great deal on a rental?

You can get great deals on leases. What are you talking about? :

I guess most rentals let you buy the car at end of the term?

Even if you lease, 10k miles a year, you can still buy the car for 52% of the Initial value. So if it's worth 60% after 3 years, but it from BMW and sell it. The only downside to leasing is the slightly higher APR.

People don't seem to get that :

Either way an M2 is literally a waste of money. You will lose money. This isn't a 1M. Either you finance it and assume all risk or lease it and mitigate your risk. I look at the slight higher interest charge as a nice insurance.
