Rear License Frame Screws Size?
Bimmer-Gang...for some idiotic reason, I'm brain farting today, but I can't seem to confirm the correct size and find a decent buying source for M2C rear license plate frame screws (preferably rust proof, black anodized Stainless Steel).
Apparently plate frame screws vary by model and year, so it's not a BMW standard across all models and years. Can you confirm that BMW OEM size for the M2C is M5 x 0.8 x 8-16 mm metric screws Lastly, where did you guys buy them, or did you simply use whatever came from the BMW dealer (I bought my M2C pre-owned from non-BMW dealer and still rocking a temp paper plate)? FYI, I just purchased a real nice OEM ///M plate frame, but unfortunately it didn't come w/ screws https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...k_ql_qh_dp_hza TIA! |

Friendly Bump...
Years ago, on the E90post forum, some user lost his tag/plate because he used generic sized screws from Home Depot that seemed to fit...but ended up messing up the threads. So guess I'm taking the right precaution... Looking at these from eBay. Can anyone confirm that the M5 x 8mm size would work for the M2C? https://www.ebay.com/itm/M2-M3-M4-M5...torefresh=true |

If you click more images under the diagram, then go to the second or third image it looks like its #20, part number 07148263913. Of course I cant find anywhere to order them except ECS tuning which would be like $30 shipping... so might just go to local hardware store or just get some from dealer when I go for break in service. |

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...w/07148263913/ The website can't confirm fitment for the M2C, so will be contacting them shortly. P.S. the $30 shipping could be that you're N. of the US border, in Canada. I presume it will be cheaper within the states... |

Yeah that's likely why, seems a bit ridiculous to ship a screw all that way anyways haha. |

Thanks for all who provided input.
The funny thing is...it's still unknown what the actual size is for these plate frame screws. FYI, I already ordered last week the screws from the ebay link I posted above...will try them out in few days. If no go, I guess will go for the ECS ones... Either way, I will report my findings here for the community FAQ |

Affirmative! Since I had no screws (or frame) on my paper temp tag to verify, I had to purchase something. The price was nominal, approximately 7 gold coins so no biggie if it didn't fit as I could use them for some project around the house. Received my permanent tag in the mail and used them to affix it to the M2C...nice and tight!
I would advise getting the flat head socket cap as you wouldn't need a washer. Also, the screws I bought aren't full SS 304 or 316 (rust proof), they're alloy steel with some black oxide coating. Might rust at some point, but good to go for now...at least I know the correct screw size. |

I use to always have the screws rust pretty bad and be a PIA to remove, sometimes the heads would snap off. Nothing more fun than trying to extract tiny rusted screws (without the help of the force) next to painted body panels. I was such a Padawan back in those days.
Now that I'm a Jedi I simply put a tiny dab of anti-seize on the screws before installing, haven't had an issue with seized up rusted screws since and I can instead use the force on more important things. |

Didn't think about antifreeze...I was going to make do for a while until I find proper SS screws that have high contents of nickel and chromium...like 304 and 316. Now...still on the plate topic: I just put a tow hook front plate since Ole Great State of Tejas requires it. Not a fan of asymmetrical look...but geez louise, talk ruining that beautiful front end. May have to look at the Carbonio option, not sure how sturdy that is (want to set it and forget it).

I think this is a good deal. Many cars use the same size so I picked up an 8 pack to cover several vehicles. Since I have custom plates on all my vehicles I always use "security" bits to avoid crimes of temptation.

The bottom screws are smaller. The M5-0.80 x 14MM are too big. My car only came with screws at the top so I ordered M5-0.80 x 14MM but they are too big to fit.

You can get stainless security bit metric hardware at Lowes as well. The kit from Amazon I showed up above comes with 2 different length bolts, stainless washers, nice foam sticky back pads and 8 hardware trim covers. It also includes a security wrench in case you don't have the proper bit. All for $8 shipped. |

Are these M5 machine screws or some kind of self tap screws? Did your license plate holder have metal receptacles (for M5 machine screws), or did it just have pre-drilled holes in plastic? Here's one with the metal receptacles: https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/466...r-51187160607/ And one without: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/51139448724/ Asked because my previous BMW had the one with metal receptacles for M5 screws, but my current one just has pre-drilled holes. I was trying to figure out what screws to use for that. |
