Being in MA and having strict annual inspections, my concern with a catted DP is not only a CEL but also passing a visual check. Anyone have any experience with passing MA (NY, NJ,CT is similar from what I hear) inspections with an aftermarket DP, specifically the visual check?

To the vendors, like Mike @ XPH, would Active be open to making a DP without their logo plate tacked on for a more discrete look?

i highly doubt that but you can check with them.

Given that the cats are EPA approved, wouldn't it pass the visual inspection?
We don't have visual inspection in Las Vegas so I'm not too familiar

OG F87 2016 OCT build down-under, Sydney climate (relatively warm / hot and dry in summer during the day), have already replaced turbo inlet, boost and charge pipe (with FTP motorsport aluminium ones), planning to do light track (once a month at most) and want a bit more power, reduce turbo lag (more linear power delivery, NA feel) for spirited drive over the weekend, what would you recommend?

CSF or VRSF? pretty much the same price in Australia.

BTW: Planning to do BM3 stage 1 and a Turner Motorsport OCC install as well.

VRSF RACE and thermal wrap your charpipe and intake with heat reflective tape. My iats on my VRSF are as low less than 10F over ambient.

I don’t think you’ll stop at Stage 1. Better to plan for stage 2. Sport Cat is what you want to go with the bigger IC.

I'd go with a race intercooler size, I would not choose VRSF.

MAD or BMS for me but the performance will be similar either way

Thanks all for the input, all mike@x-ph.com vrooooom AmuroRay

A lot for me to learn ;-) My plan is to explore the current form's (with OEM intercooler) bottlenecks when weather gets hotter and pushed a bit harder, before optimize too early.

Will do the OCC reliability mods before anything else first.

Hi all! Looking to upgrade stock IC for my M2 og N55. Daily driven with possible occasional track use. Will be tuning with BM3 stage 1 or 2. Would like to get direct fit, without any modification or bumper removal. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Currently updating ER charge pipe. Next will be Fabspeed catted down pipe.
Thanks.

If you don’t remove the bumper, you’re really limiting your options. In regards to what you asked, basically the DO88 and the CSF - most of the others will be smaller and not cool as well (VRSF Competition, BMS and MAD 5”) and the others will require bumper removal but cool better (VRSF Race, BMS/MAD Race, ER)

Not just removal of bumper but at least some tweaking on the front reinforcing brackets.

What’s being trimmed on the plastic parts just below the kidney? Is that removal completely on the center area?

If you could do it all, do all the pipes together with the IC. Less opening the bottom and removal of the IC for you. one shot. Charge + boost pipe + IC. Sport cat is in another area.

This is true - the front reinforcement will likely need to be cut - or buy the M235i version. I don’t believe anything has to be trimmed

MAD or BMS 5" are the best direct fit options in my opinion.

Absolutely. Again, I would just do a race intercooler and be done with it. A drop fit intercooler like the VRSF, BMS or MAD 5" will not hold up to track duty in higher temps. Even guys who run the larger intercooler like a CSF (bigger frontal area) still are at 40F above ambinet.

You'll need to replace the front support with the M235i version:
(04)
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_8380

And I while your replacing the intercooler, use DEI reflective heat tape to wrap your charge pipe.
