Sounds like you guys are getting the M2 Pure which is what we had here from the beginning plus the M peformance exhaust and M coilvoers.

Hardly a performance edition...

If it had specific parts not available or interchangeable to other M2 cars I would agree but this is just a parts bin car. This is just a Euro version with the BMW Performance catalog thrown at it. And 10 - 15 years from now the next gen of drivers won't care about any sports cars or collector cars.

If I lost 60lbs, not only would I be richer buying a normal M2 than this joke, but I'd be sexier too...hard pass.

I'd prob be dead. But to the point, 60lbs is more than all of the carbon fiber bits you can think of. Hood+roof+driveshaft. BMW isn't going structural CF without a huge price tag.

Why would it drive different then a normal M2 that is fitted with MPE suspension and MPE exhaust? They did not change anything else that would make the car drive different and the weight difference will also not be noticeable.

This is not a bad deal if you wanted a white M2 and planned to put on exhaust and coilovers.. otherwise I'd take the regular one at 52k..

I can afford both, and I have both. The M2 has its place. It is not as focused, but it is a very sweet little all-arounder.

Why not either:
A) Make an M2 GTS, or
B) Make this "performance" spec include extra HP (we all know the engine is capable of it)
And finally when the fast M2 is available it will look outdated. The interior already is not the best looking in its class.

I remember when I was 16/17 years old. Two cars were on my mind

One with this spartanic interior but with the obligatory aircon:

And this rather luxurious one:

Times haven't changed I see

I'd choose the one with the spartanic interior btw....

Cheers

  • "US only model limited to 150 units": putting things into perspective: that's less than the number of comments in this thread;
  • "MSRP of $61,695": fasten your seat-belt for the future M2 CS price-point;
  • "M Performance Accessories": except if mistaken, none of those parts are installed at the BMW Leipzig factory, but are retrofitted at port; now, if you order all those parts separately, at least you keep the original parts you paid for (only downside for you: the installation cost - installation at port is free of charge); just wondering: what happens at port with all those removed brand new factory parts: sent back to the factory, sold onwards as second-hand parts or trashed ?
  • "Performance Edition": hm, zero changes to engine or brakes; while they were at it, they could have kitted it out as well with the MP steering wheel, MP rear spoiler, MP diffusor and (eventually) the front/side winglets/blades (MP parts list: here), though a $61.7K sticker would have been impossible;
  • "Removal of the smoker’s package": anticipation: at the track you don't smoke but will likely get smoked ?

Dripping Heavy with Sarcasm:

Wait, so they limit the regular production of the M2.....
So, now BMW decides to double down and make a spin off
of a "special edition" low (150) units production model, and charge more for less. Its ridiculous that this M2 is not available to the masses to be had. Not jumping through hoops to get my hands on one......I'm walking over to Alfa Romeo with my wallet.

So basically this package is nothing you can't buy or add on top of the regular M2 besides the seats and the sound system and ashtray I believe....
You save $$$ by having the Port install the goodies over the dealer. The only benefit of having the dealer do it is you get the original OEM part back so you can do nothing with it but put in in your garage on a shelf.

Clearly the factory is clearing out the 2017 MY vehicle prior to March 1 and the arrival of the 2018 MY. What better way ..... The problem with the Alfa is that you will have to drop $75k for the good one. They can keep the 4 banger, no one wants that for $50k. And .... they are Fiat dealers.

I wonder why so much bitchin' an moanin' in this thread. Some complained that there was no spartan M2 offered in North America for the few enthusiasts that are more oriented towards performance than luxury/comfort. BMW NA caters to those ~150 few by offering this variant stripped of some of the luxury/pampering items, adds the coil-over suspension for better handling and the MPE for more aural emotion. Perfect for that small niche market. Those not interested, just get the regular M2 and let those that like what this edition offers enjoy it.

Keyless entry is crap: you still have to carry the fob with you, and all it does it needlessly radiate your dangly bits, or stick in your pocket. Give me a simple key anytime.

Someday I hope that BMW AG includes someone from this forum (from different markets) to have some input in building cars for the future. For some strange reason I always find that there are items that or completely useless or meaningless.

I agree, why make a limited run on a car they can't keep up with demand.

Yes, most of the stuff is superficial and not a great value. Coil over suspension, and exhaust is about all I would care for. Manual seats in theory, but rather just gets some Recaro Sportsters, which would probably save the 60 lbs right there.

So buy a stock M2, install coil overs, Recaro Seats and sport muffler and save yourself $5k, plus buy the car in the color of your liking instead.
