Nice work, Carbon_73 -- parts are now on order.
Query: Now that you've done this, do you think it could be done without removing the headlights and front bumper? If yes, yay. If no, I'll keep them on hand until I upgrade the intercooler. No point in pulling the front clip once. Thanks again! |

All thoughts are def appreciated.... will be tearing things apart to day to fit a prototype before I print a "final piece". I was able to re-design (due to extra home time) over and over, until I got rid of all the sharp bends, now its a more fluid shape which should decrease turbulent flow (ideally). Shoot me a DM with your email...

Ok-- color me confused.
In this thread, the first part says "M4 intake parts won't fit, need to fabricate other parts". Later on, it says, "M4 elbow and grill fit great with no mods/parts other than cutting two holes in plastic". Now, it's "Need to 3D print parts". What is it? TIA. R. |

The question I had was whether a piece could be made that does not require a 90 degree turn of the airflow - which while definitely better than stock ( which is closed off) - maybe less than optimal in terms of flow velocity, volume, and turbulence. So I've been crafting a new 3D printed piece that fits into the stock intake snorkel and then allows a straighter path to clean air. Below are some of the mock ups I used just to test the measurements and the interface. It is NOT the actual design of the snorkel. There are additional questions here: the stock BMW piece is narrowed already (see the picture) - does this matter? Unclear. Will there be any difference in air flow between more of a ram air scoop and the stock m3/m4 piece? Unclear. My guess is that at slow speeds they would be the same and at higher speeds the ram air would push more air in... again it remains to be tested. My plans include IAT comparisons and then we will dyno before and after with the biggest fans we can find. Then of course, we will get some track laps. If nothing else, its been a fun project during these crazy times at home.

I installed the passenger side elbow today, any tips for aligning the headlights? They have adjustments from every angle.

I was the OP for this thread and its great to see Malakas producing these parts.
As I mentioned in my first post intake temps are only 10-15 degrees warmer than actual outside temps. They are higher when the car is moving slow, or idling of course. The 10-15 degree difference is after a few minutes of decent speed driving, I doubt the OEM setup will record such a low difference. I made some bends from used plastic containers and sealed them. Turbo cars love cold air in their intakes :-)
