First off, the only close data point of a Nationally competitive driver is that of Jeremy Foley in the 1M where he has won two National events this year. The M2 is every bit as good a car, similar size width and length, weight, dimensions, wheel/tire sizes, and differential. Essentially you have the FRC/base Vette which is much wider with no great thrust vs. Focus RS which has more dig out thrust but less manuverable vs. Solstice which is smaller but less powerful vs. S2000 (AP2) which is better on tight courses and killed on power courses and the Porsche entries. If Foley is in the top 10 then that will say a whole lot for the M2. D

Points taken but the m2 is actually significantly wider (it's basically as wide as the corvette). Also slighter longer wheelbase and is slightly heavier than the 1m. It does have supposedly a much better electric diff actually so I shudder think how hard it is to put down power with the 1m cause the m2 is pretty tough.
Besides all that I'll point out that it also has some pretty different gearing than the 1m. On short tires the DCT trans tops out at just 57mph in second and this means having to shift to third on any/every course. While one might say shifting is free with the auto it's still something to think about and the thrust in third isn't much of an advantage all of a sudden. I believe the manual gives 7mph more but on 'real' courses and even staying on big 19s (this will limit front tire width before rubbing) it may still be annoying. I know the Cayman currently tops out at 68 and I've hit the limiter plenty...with no where near the thrust of the BMW. |

Hello Autox gurus,
Need some advice. I don't want to lose my BS class, but I want to put on some proper autox tires, which means I need a second set of rims which fits with the stock suspension/alignment. What do you guys suggest? My preferred option was Apex FL-5's but they require camber plates then I was looking at the 513M wheels. but they are stupidly expensive. I have been autocrossing for 4 years but this is my first year in the M2, and over the winter season I quickly realized that the MPSS are good, but no match for the likes of Conti's Extremecontact DWS or on warmer days the RE-71R. Thanks in advance! |

http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1419810 From what I’ve read, you can go with a wide variety of wheels (eg Apex), most suggest 18” is the way to go but tire sizes are limited in either 18 or 19 for 71Rs or BFG so you kind of need to know your preferred tires too. I ran 71Rs at ~18 local Autox events last year on stock size 19” rims (I wouldn’t buy stock again ... at the time I couldn’t get confirmation 18” would fit, now I would go 18”). If you want to keep in BStreet class at SCCA, you need 9” and 10” wide, but local clubs other than SCCA may not care too much. 265 or 275 front and 275 rear seem to be a preferred option. (You probably know this, but as soon as we add camber plates we lose BS class) |

SCCA Fastrack for December, 2018 has the following recommendations:
Recommended Items The following subjects will be referred to the Board of Directors for approval. Address all comments, both for and against, to the Solo Events Board. Member input is suggested and encouraged. Please send your comments via the form at www.soloeventsboard.com. Street Category #22582 Muscle cars to B Street? The SAC recommends the following proposal: Move from AS to BS: BMW M3 and M4 (F80/F82)(2015-18) Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE (V8)(2017-18) Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 (2015-18) Mustang GT Performance Package Level 2 (2018) Nissan 350Z NISMO (2004-08) 370Z NISMO (2009-18) Easier to read if you go to: https://www.scca.com/pages/fastrack-news I'm mostly concerned about the Mustang GT350. I'm also concerned about the Camaro SS 1LE. I don't think the other cars can run with the M2 but the american muscle cars definitely can with the right driver! |
