Great cars. Thanks for sharing. I'm biased, but I would pick the M2C based on looks alone. To me, it looks soo much better.

Thanks to both of you for watching... yes, it was a labor of love but still more to come!

nicely done video, great shots of the M2

for a turbo hater like me, the choice is clear, the S55 feels much more NA than the N54

but I always get excited when I see a 1M, it's just a cool car

I like turbos but they make you conform to learning how to drive them. each one has different personality. I do miss the days of NA everything and large displacement but hard to argue with easy tuning and better gas mileage.
Thanks for watching!

Nice shots and camera footage. Well done on the comparison and quite honestly I would also lean towards the more "analog" type 1M if the S55 wasn't such a great performance value in today's dollar. Paying high dollars for a 10 yr old BMW when you can get a modern factory warranted M car like the M2C for the same price doesn't make as much sense for a first time M owner like me. You're living the dream by experiencing both scenarios. I agree the M2C doesn't feel quite as raw as the older 1M. I've driven a 1M hard and know what you're describing. Infact nicely appointed low mileage ones are close to $70k now. I personally also like the Z4M and E90 platform for their "analog" nature and hydraulic steering. However after driving the M2C on a twisty road or on track, it's visceral HP/TQ and acceleration are undeniable. In the end if you can only afford one, you can't go wrong with either in my opinion.

Kudos!

I am glad you agree... I think these cars are so impressive for what they are but it saddens me when I think that they are a dying breed. "The Ultimate Driving Machine" isnt what BMW is any more... and if you think on it, BMW doesnt even use that slogan any more. Its because someone at BMW asked the question, "is that what buyers still want?" and unfortunately the answer is 'no.' What buyers want today is a status symbol which is closer related to luxury and tech than it is to driving dynamics and speed.

Hence why either of these cars are a must to consider if you love to drive and are a BMW fan.

The 1 and 1M always just looked so damn derpy to me. I think for most of us, we just "love" it because it was a highly limited production and is a car that appreciates, lol.

Personally, my favorite rare M car is the E36 M3 LTW. Now THAT is pretty.

I also like the E36M3... I idolized it in the early 2000s. I just wish we got the real motor like they had in Europe.

Excellent comparison. Lovely to see another enthusiast with both cars. I hope your channel does well and I can see the time and effort you've put in to making that video. Keep up the good work.

I think the front end of the 1M looks a little derpy around the headlights, but the rear end flows better and the fender flares on the 1M are way better than the ones on the M2. Not that I mind the M2's looks at all, but I think the 1M is a slightly better looking car overall. But in my mind it's like a 7/10 vs 7.5/10. Both good looking, but neither are achingly beautiful or anything.

Around 15 years ago I was working at the front desk of a local hotel when a couple checked in. I had a little camera that showed the parking garage and when I saw the valet pull their car in, i had to do a double take. It was an E36 LTW in perfect condition, complete with "Just married" written across the rear window.

I ended up chatting with the guy quite a bit about his car, still one of my favorite BMW's of all time.

Thats a unicorn of an E36... but... way over priced for what you get. Nevertheless, it is the car that started the waving flag motif. love that.

Very well done video; thanks! It will be really interesting to see if the M2c holds its value over the next ten years as the whole lineup starts to go electric. Especially the M6 tranny!

Garage List
I've owned a FBO 135i (N54), M2 FBO (N55) & I've driven a 1M before.

Even with forged 18 inch wheels and coil overs the feel from the M2 and 1M will always be different. Hydraulic steering on the 1M is pure magic and felt so much better and more precise than in my E90 M3. Something just glows from the 1M that makes it so much more special then anyone can ever understand without driving it.

With that said, for day to day driving I do like the electrically assisted steering in the M2. It's more friendly and I love how it adjusts with different driving modes. It might be what I prefer for my daily driver but the 1M will always have that special feel to it over the M2. Other then that I think my money is all on the M2.

I'd love to get a 1M in the future and put the S65 V8 in it!! That would be an epic car to pair with my M2 in the garage.

We also can't forget that without the 1, we wouldn't have the 2 👌🏻
