LMAO

You can't be serious. I mean, this is what now... 20 years worth of rod bearing problems starting with the S54 in early 2000's?

Even if cars manufactured only on that day are affected, it's still bad. And let's not forget that in early 2000's, it took BMW a while to even acknowledge that it was a problem.

I would try to demand an extended warranty on the engine if I owned a car that was going to have to have the rod bearings swapped.

My M2 was built Oct 6th (that’s the day it rapidly jumped through all the assembly steps), at the port Oct 13th, and arrived at my west coast dealer last Friday.

They trucked it cross-country? Weird. Both BMW's I've ordered stayed on the ship until California and then came up to Portland. That leg of the trip takes as long (or longer? I forget...) than the time to cross from Europe.

Congrats on the car, Marc!

Congrats on the car, Marc!
Haha no. I wish they trucked it for me. Local dealers wanted MSRP or above. So it made sense to buy from a dealer on the east coast, save $6k off MSRP and have it shipped home. Still came out way ahead vs paying local inflated prices. Car is still at the dealer. Seems nobody wants to truck over thanksgiving. Should take delivery in a week or two. This is my third car so I’m not in a huge hurry. Will post pics when she arrives.

I just realized my car falls into the window May 15, 2019 to October 23, 2020 manufacturing date.

Does anyone know what if anything BMW is doing about this?

I wouldn't worry about it. This is a quote earlier in this thread.

"Yes, May 2019 to October 2020 but not for the M2. That includes the X3M and X4M. Picture only says October 23 for the M2"

I spoke to the shop foreman at our dealership and he looked it up and confirmed it was only for production on that particular day with respect to the M2C.

The others had a range of production dates.

Rather odd if you ask me...

I have also seen conflicting information. If it was only one day, why would the BMW arrive bulletin reference a range. The BMW TSB also specifies M2, so it definitely seems applicable. The fact that it's a small range of manufacturing dates makes me wonder what the actual issue is. If anyone knows, I'd certainty appreciate it.

It's also odd that it affected M2 s55 and x3m, x4m with s58. I suppose they must share a rod bearing part.

S55 bearings and S58 bearings are definitely not shared. S58 has IROX bearings if it's like B58 and the journal is much wider. The M2 might be here by mistake. On the other hand, the rod bearings for both are sourced from Glyco, so it could be a broader issue that affects multiple parts.

Interesting, still...only one day?

Odd.

Engines are built at different plants and times then shipped to the car plants to be installed.

Possibly S55 and S58 are from same plant maybe? All parts used are tracked for quality /defect purposes such as this.

Could be supplier defect or a tooling issue, who knows.
