Current Steering Wheel v. Future Steering Wheel

I really like the smaller button cluster of the current M2C steering wheel.

What do you think? Am I the only one who isn't a fan of the larger button bay on the steering wheel?

I agree with you.. I think the F series steering wheels look way better than the G series

Agree to disagree. I don't think either looks bad. But I'd like a flat bottom design from BMW in the future.

I wish they offered a smaller diameter wheel tbh. The M2C wheel is huge. I also have a G05 X5 and that wheel felt smaller to me? I don't know if it was because I was also in a larger cabin with perception, but yeah, let's get smaller diameter wheels on performance cars. Porsche offers their GT steering wheels, which is lovely.

IMHO, the new one looks like a steering wheel for an SUV...

BMW needs a new direction with more back to the roots approach. When others try to be like what BMW used to represent, BMW is getting away from it. If not the other models, at least the M cars should be for performance driving. They are getting bigger, heavier, disconnected from the road and too expensive for their target market.

M2 is arguably the best current M-car because it is closest to the original BMW M-formula. And I suspect the new M2 in 2023 will follow the similar trend; hopefully I'm wrong...

I prefer the F series wheel, having driven the new G series also.

Personal preference of course but the F series wheel looks and feels better for me.

I couldn't agree more! For performance smaller is better with regard to steering wheels! Haha. I can't promise my next car will be the 2023 m2. I'm leaning toward a cayman. I think this m2 is better than the current cayman but I think that will change for the next generation. Like you I hope I'm wrong!

I'm with you! The wheel on my GT4 feels a lot more sporty. And the current gen M2C wheel is much more elegant looking than the G80's, at least from what I've seen in photos. I do really like the OEM M2C wheel, although I wish it was smaller in diameter. I'd consider aftermarket but now that I have a heated wheel I can't give that up, not with Canadian winters!

yeah the heated wheel is nice. I used it couple of time in AZ winter believe it or not. some aftermarket company may figure out a steering wheel that retains the heating element.

I use my heated steering wheel function almost every day now, lol. I love it.

As for the steering wheels, maybe I'm biased, but the F-Series wheels are the best looking to me. I love the simplicity of it.

Not a fan of the big buttoned, chunky new ones. It reminds me of the ones MB/AMG has been using and they look awful to me.

The wheel in our cars has been one of my favorite parts of this car and my 340 before it. It's great.

I like the new shape of the airbag on the new wheel -- that's about it.

I always thought the round airbag on the current wheel looked a little pedestrian or conservative.

Both are above average steering wheels in the modern era. I wish they were thinner, but at least they’re circles with their hub in the middle, not dumb like Jaguar/Audi/corvette steering wheels. It’s not a race car and has more than 1/2 a turn lock to lock. Some consistency when I’m trying to catch oversteer is all I ask.

The M2C wheel is actually a tiny bit thinner than the OG M2's.

What's your source for that? Looks like they use the identical part number:

Steering Wheel 32-30-7-847-607
With M4, with heated. M3, with heated. M3, M4. M2. 2 series. With m sport. M sport leather. With heated wheel. With m model, with heated.

I have both a F and G series car, other car is a 530e. The F series wheel to me is superior in design, but ultimately both feel about the same. Given the house, I prefer the F wheel.
