I'm about to replace my OE MPSS with Sport Cup 2s. Has anyone used them on their M2? Can anyone tell me how quickly they warm up and what temp/pressures they like?

Tanks in advance!

I ran a set last year, made it trough 10 track days.

Still got shoulder wear at -2.8 camber but was still satisfied with longevity.

They normally get up to temp after one or two laps depending track and ambiant temp. When cold on the street or first lap they can be very slippy, more than OE PSS

They are OK in wet depending on the wear.

I tried to shoot for 34-35psi hot, if you let them get over 37 they melt and desintegrate FAST !

I'm running R888R this year, they seem to be more resistant to shoulder wear but I don't find them better or neither worse as of now (two days)

Thanks! Much appreciated. I will keep them ~34psi hot which means ~28 cold to start with.

Did you notice them getting greasy as they heated up, or were they pretty stable? If they got greasy do you remember at what temp? MPSS gave up around 92C.

Canadian cars dont have TPMS sensors so I don't know internal temps of the tires.

I use a laser pyrometer after my session on the outside. I think they start to get greasy at around 75-80c outside, I have no idea how much that could equate inside and during a session.

Moronic question incoming...

Could anyone help me understand how to properly secure the M2 to a trailer? I’ve never towed anything in my life.

(In case it’s not clear, the car is going on a trailer and being towed by a truck)

I tie down From each wheel using Some 36” axle straps thru the spokes...and then standard ratchet straps to the d-clips.

What kind of trailer? U-haul or a flat car trailer? If the trailer has D-rings, you can use long axle straps to run thru the wheels. Make sure the straps are long enough. I used 40" long straps. Then use ratchet straps to attach the wheel straps to the trailer's D-rings.

Am I going to destroy my new PS4S on the track if I don't get camber plates before my track day in August?

Really depends of how hard you push and you back off when there too hot.

I'd say if your a beginner you should be find for 1 or 2 track days before going deeper in the tire's shoulder as you progress.

I got 4 track days out my MPSS and ~20k street miles on factory suspension settings. So I don’t think 1 day will roast them. But do look out for tire pressure and temps like suggested above. Avoid more than 36psi and more than 90c.

A Laser Pyro is not very effective at setting up a suspension, or truly seeing where a tire is happiest PSI wise. Buy a good Internal probe pyrometer ...worlds better :-) .

http://949racing.com/using-a-tire-py...49-Racing.aspx

I've used them since 2001.

This one is what I've had for several years now.

Easy to store Numbers on the fly for both TP's and camber

Depends on your driving style, if you plough into every corner and overdrive them they will wear much quicker. When they start shrieking back off your steering angle a little bit. If you manage the heat you should have no issues, they are great tires. I have tracked on PS4S a few times and they get a bit soft and squirmy after a few hard laps. If its your first day number one priority should be have your brakes in good order.

Cup 2s are on. I assume I need to heat cycle them before they get to max grip, right?

Factory. So hard in Germany to change sizes due to TUV requirements. No tire shop was willing to deviate from what is stated on my registration document.

So not even the M3/4 sizes? Guess you need new wheels with the correct Gutachten for wider tires?

I’m sure for a native speaker this would somehow be possible. But after having a 20min discussion in German about what is possible, what is not possible, what requires additional TUV approvals etc. I was mentally drained. So I gave up and took factory sizes.

i highly advice you to get at least 2.5 degres camber running cup2. In their current spec they have somewhat of a soft sidewall (should be changed with the connect variant).
i had them on for 1 trackday with 1.5 dgrees of camber (oem, lowered) and ended up with this result:

There's my answer.

I was about to post a thread about my Front MPSS wearing oddly but I was definitely at that point of ~38PSI and 90°C. It looked like the outer shoulder was melting too much. Rears were fine maxing at 35PSI/66°C. Couldn't do a full 30 min. session before my tires weren't happy.

Autobahn CC Full Course - 85°F amb. Sunny - Stock Suspension & Alignment - For reference

Should there be this much difference between my front and rears or am I not driving out of corners hard enough? Am I causing this through bad corner entry technique?

Also had a random thought that it could be heating so quick due to my 18" 513s being much closer to the brakes than 19" 437s?
