Six months and 1 day of ownership - check engine light this morning.

I pulled codes using Carly and it returns a run of misfiring on cylinder 6 and this morning misfiring on multiple cylinders. 4037 miles on the clock.

Crap.

I would clear the codes and see if it pops up again. If it goes take it to the dealer.

Please let us know the resolution if you go to the dealer.

I'm just going to take it to the dealer this morning. Too new of a car to mess around.

Good luck! Let's hope it's something small or easily addressed.

Even if it's just "clear the codes and go", I'd like the codes and the visit recorded in case more problems pop up.

This exactly. Never clear the codes if the car is under warranty.

Make sure you check the charge-cooler's coolant level as these seem to be prone to internal leaks which could give you a misfire. Let us know what they find!

Same happened to me. Took it to the dealer, they replaced the coil and spark plug that was misfiring and problem was solved.

This is a common problem with M cars and cold temperatures.

It will be man. No worries. It happened to me at 300 miles during the coldest winter days here in NY. 1200 miles later, car is fine. No issues.

One way to get a reminder that our beloved 2's are really, really small. Get a 5-series loaner.

Tell me about it. My mom has a 5er and when I drive it feels more like I'm the captain of a small cruise ship.

I drove the 530 8 miles down a busy road, so I didn't get to really test it much. A couple of thoughts while I wait for a work thing to do it's thing:

1. Huge!
2. Very comfy ride but not as disconnected as the F10 5's I've had as loaners in the past
3. Turn-in is very slow. I felt like I was waiting for the above-mentioned cruise ship to turn. I don't know how much of this is due to me being used to my M2.
4. It's sorta low-spec for a 5. It only has Hifi Sound...and it's better than any of the stock systems I've had in 3's and my M2. It doesn't sound like it's all coming from my left knee at all.
5. I like the gauges. Quite pretty.
6. It's really slow.

The ride quality of all the vehicles on the CLAR architecture is just amazing. Seriously the new 5 drives like it's a 7 series and it's the same with the new X5, I don't know how they make them all feel like long wheelbase cars that just glide over the road like honey.

They are working on it. Sounds like they began with looking at the plug and coil from the cylinder that reported more than one misfire.

Doesn't BMW perform cold weather testing on all of their vehicles before production? lol

Most common issues related to misfires.
  • Bad plug/s
  • Bad coil/s
  • Fuel Pump
  • Bad Fuel
None of these would make me worried about the car.

We had some crazy cold days about a month ago and that’s when I had the same problem. The dealer told me extremely cold temperatures and not driving the car on a daily basis contributed to the misfires. They replaced the spark plug and the coil on cylinder 1 and that was it. Problem solved.
