Euro Delivery: Munich here we come!

FYI, after recent discussion with a gracious Canadian Bimmerposter who just returned from his European Delivery adventure -- wherein he spent a few days at (and driving on) the Nurburgring track with the blessing of BMW -- I wondered if the insurance racetrack-driving exclusion for US customers was still in effect.

As some of you may have read in an M3 thread re: a crash on the Nurburgring during ED driving a few months ago, a US resident was denied coverage by BMW, who explained that their policy had changed, due to a different insurance carrier. This exclusion is specifically referenced in the ED info packet which is mailed to US customers.

However, after the Canadian gent's experience, I hoped that things for US customers have changed. Answer is "NO". Per 'Sabrina' -- a BMW NA delivery specialist, the Canadian ED insurance coverage is different.

Too bad for US, because we'll be at the Welt this Monday, and then embarking on 12 days of driving. I still intend to ask about insurance while at the Welt, and maybe they'll even be able to put me directly in touch with the applicable insurance provider. Otherwise, if we drive on a track, it will be at our own risk or covered under a separately-purchased policy for such activity.

That is all.

I'm gonna go on the Ring anyway. Going to go early Sunday morning where there is less traffic. Cant push my car hard anyway. Just going to cruise through it to check it off my bucket list.

We'll be there the evening of (Wed) Sept. 19. OTOH, if the Welt staff does confirm (and puts it in writing) that US customers can drive on the Ring under BMW insurance, then we'll probably do a tourist lap.

Speaking of bucket list items, I REALLY want to drive 150mph on the Autobahn, but we'll be in break-in mode the whole trip. My personal best is 125mph, according to the speedo of an Audi A4 TDi wagon we rented some years ago. Oh well.

I’ll be at the ring October 6 to 7. Going to wake up and go on the track early AM on October 7th.

Let us know what the insurance is when you pick up your car.

I can already tell you the insurance BMW provides you for ED trip [as a US customer] does not cover the Ring.

You definitely need to plan at least 1200 miles on your trip and allow time to get the break-in service done abroad (make a note of M service locations along your route). You'll have to pay for it in full but BMW NA will do a courtesy reimbursement upon your return. You will regret missing out on that part (unless of course a member of your traveling party ends up in a French hospital for 3 days and you don't make your mileage and run out of time).

I remember reading about the hospital stay. Bummer, but a happy ending regardless.

It's not our first trip to Europe, nor our last (hopefully), but our itinerary with the M2C goes Munich to Bamberg, then west to Nurburg, then south to Trier, then way south to Switzerland. If we reach 1,200 miles, it will be en route to Zurich to drop our car off. We'll get it redelivered (?) to the Performance Center, where they'll do our break-in service while we enjoy the PC experience.

Our Euro trip continues, via train to Milan, then renting a station wagon because we're meeting family and friends and need to schlep them -- including a wheelchair -- around. However, en route to Assisi area, we're stopping in Modena for a couple nights, and maybe we'll rent a Ferrari or Lambo to help restore our fast-car mojo before we continue in the Fiat Tipo wagon.

For those of you (i.e. none) anxiously awaiting posts from this PFC, we'll be observing radio silence for the next few weeks. Our X3 will whisk us to the Austin airport this afternoon, then onward to Atlanta for the transcon flight to Munich.

Sixt will fetch us in a 7 series (yay!) on Sunday night, and we're staying at the Leonardo just a mile from the Welt. As of 11:40a on Monday, we'll be finalizing the delivery process and beginning our driving adventure in our M2C.

For those of you (i.e. none) wondering when we'll be back online, the answer is October 11.

This forum has been an excellent source of info (thanks) and I'm hopeful we'll meet at least a couple of forum members while we're at the Welt and driving through Germany and Switzerland. Cheers!

When did they change the policy? It was allowed in Oct 2015 when I did my F80 ED as long as it was during a tourist day not a closed track day.

Saw Mr. Arnt from Halifax bsm m2c sitting at loginout. Looks very nice and was interesting to see the newer angled halo rings compared to my rounded halo rings.

Not sure about Bohio but we just got back to the states. Gotta get back to work!

I will say that the drive from Bormio (Stelvio Pass) down the backside to get to st. moritz and the juliar pass as well as the Sustenpass were unbelievable. I would love to go back and do the exact same route with a BMW Bike! Can't believe guys can just head down there on the weekends to ride - very jealous.

She was a little dirty by the end haha.

Here is some of the orange trim for those interested. I was really on the fence but didn't like the blue much either. Turns out the orange looks great (to me).
Not as in your face as many of the pictures depict.

The route I took put me right around 1160 miles.

Hope this is ok, I had another member ask for a few more photos from the trip so I figured I would put them here. I hope you guys do the same.

so.
Waiting in the lounge for the car was some reading material. First glimpse of the car I couldn't believe it was mine (until I saw the slick top).
Took it straight up to BMW classic for a tour that absolutely blew me completely away. The documents alone... good grief.
The picture by the wood line and green field is where I put the tracwrap on. Had to put it over some bugs.

The rest are some random shots along the way. The glass building is hanger 7 owned by the redbull guy.
Some kid from Mercedes was hand delivering/loading an old coach to what appeared to be some chinese businessmen near the loginout. Very interesting. He said he had to work on the braking system.
When I got home, there were tv's watching tv's - I was only gone a week...

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. What size and length of track wrap did you buy? What all did you cover and how hard was it? Did you use exacto blades to trim it to fit?

I'll be doing the same thing next year. Any tips would be appreciated!!

I believe it was two of these:
https://www.amazon.com/XPEL-TW4T20-T...words=tracwrap

So two 4"x20' rolls which I used every bit of to cover all of the front bumper, part of the front fenders, headlights and a line or two across the front of the hood. Worked great.
I only took a small backpack with me so they had to fit in it along with my clothes.
I had a tiny playskool scissors which was the biggest pain in the ass. That and not having a spray bottle of water to make it easier to apply and eliminate wrinkles.
I wish I had a dollar for every person who did a double take crossing a crosswalk. like "what has this idiot done here"
