M Performance Exhaust
Spoke with my salesmen yesterday would be an additional 6k to add the M Performance exhaust with Carbon Fiber Tips.
My question is two fold. 1. Is the M Performance Exhaust truly worth the 6k price tag? 2. If you wanted exhaust with Carbon Fiber Tips if you weren't going to go with the M Performance Exhaust what brands would be your top 3 choices and why? Appreciate the info and insight. I saw the other thread about the M Performance exhaust but figured I might be able to see some differing opinions based on my second question. |

Had to delete my first post after realizing I wasn't on the OG board.
That said, for comparison sake, the MPE with CF tips for OG M2s can be had for around $3750 right now. Was surprised to see such a cost difference. I'd have a hard time dropping 6k...but it's all about what you value and want out of your car. If you want it, get it. Otherwise you may spend $60k+ on a car and not fully enjoy it if the stock exhaust is not pleasing to you. THAT would be a bigger waste of money than dropping 6k on an exhaust

No.
I've decoded ASD and thoroughly enjoy the stock exhaust sound. It provides plenty of growl, pops, and burbles without disrupting the neighborhood. For comparison, last was a 3 series with MPE and M2C stock is substantially more enjoyable. Turning $6,000 into marginal change in tone or sound increase? In my world that expense for a novelty is unbearable. The price is egregious at 10% of the price of the car. Obviously, I'm out and won't be adding one to my M2C. In no way could enough "emotion harvested from aural exacerbation" (or however Germans describe a louder muffler) be worth $6,000. Show me a MPE for $1,200 and maybe.... Only after: Wheels + Winter or Track Tires Track Pads |

I'm sure ///AVM will chime in here as he swapped his stock exhaust for MPE, and give you a comparison.
I like my stock exhaust, its the right level of obnoxious when I want it to be, and tame otherwise. Just like BMW likes to do it (wolf in sheep's clothing). |

I'm in the same boat as you, but for different reasons. I don't mind the stock sound of the exhaust in my M2C, but man do I hate that eyesore of a muffler. I think the MPE is the only warranty maintaining option right now to solve that, minus painting it black, but I could be wrong.
Just giving another potential reason to pull the trigger. =) |

To ME, MPE is simply better than stock . . . $6K better ??? If I only had $6K to burn on a stock M2C it would go toward MP coilovers to eliminate the enormous fender-to-tire gaps, and black satin powder coating of the 788 wheels. ///AVM |

Yeah, I have peace of mind knowing I am not likely to scrape, even though I get pretty close in my daily travels. I think this is what's always been great about BMW M. They bring you to a point of balance between sporty and daily, then the rest is up to you.

Understand completely . . . I also recognize many of our enthusiast brothers are not nearly as bothered by the gaps as I was prior to 'correction.' Every so often I feel compelled to remind everyone what I hope is obvious. . . by no means is sharing of MY views intended to convince others they should agree with me. I honestly do not think I scrape the front diffuser more than before it was lowered on MP coilovers. My 718 CGTS was significantly lower than the M2C and I scraped it CONSTANTLY. It never bothered me because the scraping occurred on the underside of the front diffuser. Still, Porsche knows many of its more 'attentive' consumers have a difficult time living with a scraped front diffuser . . . from what I have been told, replacement was made into a simple and relatively inexpensive DYI endeavor (approximately $150, I believe). ///AVM |

Porsche builds quality products that are reliable. You pay a little in the way of 'Porsche tax,' but I feel the brand offers what pay in return. Routine maintenance is more expensive than with most other brands, but in keeping with the purchase price. All cars are 'easy' for me to maintain because all I am capable of doing is dropping them off at the dealership service department. ///AVM Last edited by ///AVM; 12-04-2020 at 07:22 AM.. |

Plus one on stock exhaust. I actually think it is quite good. In fact, much better than my F80 w/ same engine.

What i was looking at "in stock" cars, I wanted a manual... I did not like the look of the stock exhaust and knew I would eventually change it, so I was interested specifically to see what kind of deal I could get on an MPE equipped M2C, obviously I got a deal that I liked enough. |
