So some quick internet search indicates that the new M2 or M2 competition will arrive next year Autumn.
What I am worrying is that the new model will have similar design like the new M3 and m4, which I do not like. And I also worry that the new M2 will also have two models, a base and the competition, in which only the base model offers manual transmission...

Should I just get the current generation?

Chris Harris bought the current model under the premise the next one will likely not be as driver orientated. Just sayin...

The next one is 2 years away (the non M version is next year).

The rest depends on how much you like the current one. The new one will likely be bigger, heavier, uglier on the outside but more modern inside. It will have more power but it will be offset by more weight.

I've also bought my M2C 2 weeks ago.

Really love the car! I didn't want to wait on a car I don't even know I'm going to like it or not. If I see the new BMW's I would not like it

If I were you I'd wait a bit longer for the release of the J87 M2 launching in 2035. Apparently that will have carbon doors, sea kelp composite interior and the latest Lithium-xenon batteries. No manual though.

If like the F87 launch, short in supply, tough to get, market adjustments, etc.

The *average* increase in weight of the G80/82 over the F80/F82 M3/M4 is 407lbs (ranges from 375lbs to 447lbs).
The G80/G82 got larger (5.2 inches in length as well as taller and wider)

Assuming the G87 M2 sees a proportional increase in size and weight (unknown, but certainly possible/likely looking at each generation of BMW), it will be a completely different type of car.

I think a lot of us are going to have a better idea of how interested we are in the G87 when we see the new standard 2 Coupe. It'll be easier to extrapolate what the G87 will be like when we see the 230i coupe (ignoring the existence of the 2-series sedan thing that's out now entirely here).

Only you can answer that question IMO.

The F87 is pretty amazing and I would consider it in a heartbeat. The reason I'm waiting is because I've got other cars to play with and I'm OK buying used.

I think I'd have a better idea of the G87 when non M 2 series coupe is unveiled, and when we start seeing reviews and deliveries of M3/4 in the spring.

At this point for me, it's not possible to count out G87 yet.

You have to ask yourself why you want one.

The new one will likely perform better and have way cooler features.

The current generation car is already built on a fairly old platform and is pretty light on modern conveniences. I think to a lot of us, that’s a big part of the appeal, the F87 is very deliberately an “old school” car.

Do you want an awesome performance car or a throwback machine?

That and taste is subjective, but from what I've seen of the next gen, it's not my cup of tea, design wise. The headlights/rear end look weird to me.

Judging by what BMW has put out with the new M4 and M3....I would not wait for the new gen. Personally I feel like F87 looks the best and is the perfect size. Ive had mine since Sept and Im loving it.

Why do people keep saying the next M2 will be out in one year...one m model to another is usually a 1.5 year lag from eop to sop.

Back in 2016, some folks had to wait many months to get the keys of the highly anticipated original F87 M2. There were waiting lists and markups in some regions. And back then there was also the appealing F80 M3 and F82 M4 around as premium alternative.

It goes without saying that late 2022 we may also expect high anticipation for the second generation M2 after a painstakingly drawn out hype in 2021-2022. Combine this with something different compared to 2015-2016 that may even draw more attention to the G87 M2: the boat-sized G80 M3 and G82 M4 with its 'peculiar' design will be around (maybe already an LCI [life cycle impulse]).

So, realistically speaking, make that 'someday in 2023' at the very earliest for you. And as you know, it's still the dreadful 2020 as we speak. You can still get an M2 Competition or M2 CS and enjoy those cars in the very near future, knowing exactly what to expect from those 'final design stage' M2 cars.
