iDrive Audio Errors: Carplay
I have noticed that I am getting periodic loss of sound (for roughly 1 second at a time) when I am playing audio via carplay. So far I have noticed this happening when playing music or podcasts via spotify, soundcloud, or the youtube apps on my phone.
Is this a known issue, is this something I should alert the dealers to to fix (note, they just reset the iDrive to combat an occasional iDrive reset issue I was having, but the audio issue has continued unabated). |

Have you ruled out the phone by trying another?
Most complaints I have seen is about sound quality but not drops in audio

A good question, but yes, I have. I have used two Iphones and one Android (Iphone X, Iphone X, and Note 20 ultra 5g). Obviously the Android was not via carplay, but rather bluetooth. But I had the same issue.

For me besides other bugs iPhone 11 with iOS 13/14 using YouTube music via CarPlay I have zero drops in audio for streaming audio. I don't store songs on my phone.

Just FYI, I had my bluetooth audio fail after a recent NBT update (need to get it reflashed I think). It affected both bluetooth and carplay (carplay worked but no audio came through) so I suspect carplay automatically uses bluetooth for audio transmission.
