M2 forum kind of dead?
I remember when I got my f30 328i back in 2015 and I'd come to the f30 forum every day and read for hours and learn new things. Since buying my n55 OG m2, I've spent maybe 3 days of reading on the forums here and it seems like its kind of dead. I find myself refreshing the M2 discussions, classifieds, California regional section and the N55 engine section all like once an hour with nothing new to learn.
Is it that there just isn't that much going on for the N55 M2?

Agreed. The forums across the board seem to be less active than pre-covid. Thought it would be the opposite since now we have time to enjoy our cars more than ever.

With COVD the amount of time we drive our Ms has drastically been reduced. I guess that is showing up as fewer posts.
Also, the M2s are nearing the end of life for the F series. Not a lot of new things are happening. |

I think it's like a new relationship. When you first get your M2, you have a lot of to learn about. You have to get up-to-date on all the mods that can be done to the car and workout which ones you want. Also have to learn idrive and all the traction settings, and why sometimes your mirrors fold in and sometimes they don't, and other minute details.
If it's your first BMW, and first sports car, and first time ordering a car, all that is amplified because you're on a whole new platform, have a ton of mod possibilities because it's a sports car, and get to learn shipping/delivery if it's your first time ordering. Also if it's your first sports car and expensive one, you get the new experience of everyone looking at your when you drive and learning to deal with that. And, if it's your first time on bimmerpost, you have a bunch of new people to learn about and how to deal with. However, if your previous car was a BMW, you don't have idrive and other quirks to learn about. If this isn't your first N55, you don't have that to learn about. If it's not your first sports car then you don't have suspension and methanol and ethanol and turbo stuff or what's the widest tire that'll fit, etc. But after you figure out all the stuff that can be done to the car, and have made a wishlist of things you want, it's just waiting to buy the stuff and keeping up to date here and there incase a new part comes out that you want. To tie it back to my opening statement of it being like a relationship. This is the point when you start arguing with each other just to bring some excitement to the relationship. Which, I dunno, maybe that's why ppl get into pointless arguments on this forum lately... out of boredom. So, my advice, join the club and start arguments if you're bored. Or find a new hobby. I'm been looking into sewing lately and buying a sewing machine. |

Thought the same, I was always big on the Subaru/Nissan/BMW forums and figured this would be just as poppin' as the others
Was a little disappointed to find both M2 and M2C sections pretty inactive |

Once more people start to sell and the second and third wave of owners comes along it'll pick back up. You know how much people here hate using the search feature and love asking questions that have already been brought up and answered 50 different times in 50 different threads

Forums have died slowly since social media but I think some have definitely stayed relevant but not to what they once were. FB groups and Instagram stuff lets people see cars they want to without loggin into the computer. Luckily the mobile IOS app for this forum is great
I was actually going to make a post about something i've noticed in multiple automotive disciplines across the board. It's very interesting but "thread engagement" now or what gains interest isn't what it use to be. And this would 100% cause a debate. We are a society of instant gratification and it's moving into car culture We are now in a age of social media and I've noticed "instagram hot boi" (aka tons of rolling shots, never really using the M2 for good roads/track) tons of "hard parking". They generate a bunch of traffic for just swapping exhaust tips but if you post your M2 barreling into a corner on the track maybe 1/3 of the love if that. People would much rather see a photo shoot for a new carbon fiber badge than someone testing suspension set ups or doing actual modifications. I actually tested this on a FB group other day with a very smartass post LONG LIVE FORUMS..... how I done learnt stuff

I've noticed the slow-down this year as well, just figured it was COVID.
On the one hand I miss the traffic of NASIOC and S2Ki, but I don't really miss the people, if you catch my drift. |

Everyone is on the new G80 forums blasting BMW about the new grill design. Seems like people have gotten over the new grilles so maybe we'll get back to normal here.

Don't understand how Covid would make people LESS active on the internet. Makes no sense lol
Pretty sure it's just because M2s are so uncommon. Facebook groups have much better activity |

honestly there's just not much left to talk about. the M2 forum was bustling with activity 2016-2018 but since then there's been a steady decline in owner activity as well as vendor activity.

Car has been out of production for over two years now, aftermarket companies have little to no incentive to r&d and produce anything new for it On the flip side, browsing through past threads yields a lot of good info on things you didn't know about. It's simply a book that has been written and is pretty much finished. 2nd/3rd/+ owners will keep it alive for another decade or so, it won't be completely dead, but the community hype for the car is long gone. Happens to all cars/specific model forums.

Also I think the m2c overshadows the m2 a bit and makes it less exciting when you get the same car but with a faster newer more heavily tunable engine, and you can argue about the reason for crank hub failure, probably on the s55 section of the m3 forum. I've definitely been less excited by the car. I still love it, I just don't think about it as much. The stuff I want to do to improve it has mostly been done by BMW on the M2C, so I'm like well I might as well just trade up to that some day, maybe? I would say I'm content with the car for the most part as is, and I hesitate to put more money into the platform because I'd rather put it into an M2C someday, maybe after people dump them on the used market. One thing that blows about the m2 an m2c across the board is no individual color option. Something fun about some of the other BMW forums is looking at the unique specs from factory. |

Agreed.. I've been an M2 owner since July 2020 and a little disappointed with the amount of the limited activity. Do get the point that the F87 is nearing end of it's life and it's not a very new car on the block. This forum definitely beats out instagram and facebook posts - hate seeing a gazillion different angles of the same car over and over from owner to owner
To add to the above - the Australia M2 forum is unfortunately next to dead. Main reason for people posting there is for selling parts |

People (Like me) are also waiting to buy out their lease or waiting for warranty to run out before diving into mods. I know that's my plan anyways.
