I would be very surprised if BMW decides to build an M car in Mexico, but i guess if Mexico is the only plant for the new 2 series, then they will definitely be manufacturing it there.I definitely won’t be buying one if it is made in Mexico.

The X3M, X4M, X5M, and X6M are already assembled in South Carolina, not Germany.

To cut costs, all new entry-level BMWs including Ms will be assembled in Mexico, from here on out..

I'm just glad we have basically a good 3.5 years before our cars are the "old M2" and then the OG M2 owners and the M2C owners can find a common enemy and start bitching about all the things they hate about the new car and how the F87 is the last true ///M to make themselves feel better lol

The M2CS will continue the slide in resale prices. It will also hurt the M2C.

It must be a sad life to worry about your cars resale value all the time. Seriously, go out and drive. You bought the car for a reason, hopefully that's to have fun and enjoy the "spirit of the road"

Who cares what the next thing is.

Amen! I am totally new to the BMW world and I am very happy that my M2 chose me. I really do feel like it "chose me" because I honestly can't say how I landed on it in the first place. I am completely ignorant about BMW's. They've never really been on my radar. Until I saw that blue M2...I'm hoping to enjoy this car for a while . I don't even care what's coming up. I'm just enjoying what I have for now.

VW has been manufacturing cars in Mexico for some time, and look how reliab...err nope, scratch that.

German cars not made in Germany lose a bit of their luster to me, but I guess it's the way of the world.

Going to start saving up for 2 years before I put in an order and then that'll be up to another year before that goes through. I'll probably be looking at getting one of these first year models. Am a little bit iffy on the idea of owning a first year model of a new generation though. Especially if they're moving production to somewhere else, regardless of location.

Think about this -

It's against BMW's cost cutting approach to ship the S58 from Germany to Mexico just for one model (M2).

Therefore, very likely, the G87 M2 will get a beefed up B58 (B58B30TO) 410ps rated from factory, as the legitimate F87 M2 OG successor. Let's welcome.

Can source the S58 from Spartanburg County since the X3/4M are assembled there

The USMC agreement (the "new" NAFTA) forces Mexico to increase the minimum wages for Mexican auto workers to levels that are more similar to the US rates. This will alleviate the rush to Mexico for cheap labor.

Now if the plant is already there, that alone could be the reason they get built there rather than re-tooling one of the US plants.

One plus to this is that those that custom order their cars may receive them more quickly than when they were made in Germany. But personally, for me, I'd rather wait and get a German built BMW. I enjoy my German food made in Germany, my Italian food made in Italy, etc. Unfortunately we won't be given that choice.

PS - drop the "Trump" stuff. It's a car forum. Keep your politics for the off-topic sections. No one cares about your hate of the President.
