I don't know where did you get the info that downpipes make small gains without a tune. It's some tuners BS IMO

My F13 M6 COMP M Performance Exhaust System made by Akrapovic. The exhaust system was purchased via BMW:-) I dont remember the logos on the exhaust anyway, but i assume it has Akra logo.

Another thing to keep in mind is DP diameter. The sound from a full 3” vs a tapered DP will change. The non tapered will keep a deeper tone.
I guess if I go to the M3/M4 section, I'm sure there's lots on DP's... And they've been around long enough now that there must be consensus on this.

What are your opinions on the brands and their downsides? I mean, if the VRSF ones are $500, and fit great, and don't rust, why spend around $1000 on brands like AA, AR Design or others, or $1200 on ER? I don't want to pay a premium for just branding. I'm about function.

There's so many out there: LOOK

There must some downsides to their pipes?

I don't want the "you get what you paid for" to come back and bite me a few years down the road, and I'm not going to cheap out over a few hundred when I have an M2C, but if there's no point getting more expensive pipes, then why waste $...

One of the sensor holes is to far towards the rear on one of the pipes for some reason on the M2C. The russian owner on here said they to adjust wiring to get it to reach.

Maybe VRSF can get an M2C in and look in to this.

Atleast my dealer said that MPE on M2 is akra, and also a shop near me changed MPE to Akra, and then said to me that in the process of doing so they realized mpe was akra.
Ofcourse they could both be wrong.

So it seems going catless with otherwise stock exhaust is a horrible idea. AA midpipe 100% necessary

To my knowledge there was only one MPE that was actually made by Akra. I believe it was the E60 M5, but I'm not 100% sure. Since then it's kind of been this urban legend that all are made by Akra, but it's actually BMW that designs/produces them.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: I've been corrected. It was actually the F10 M5.

Huh? Why? The guy above said his VRSF's were:
