I anticipate the G80 ass will look really good in person . . . and the 'hips' will continue to be phenomenal.

I dont know man, the sides and rear do nothing for me. Very Japanese car-like design imho. But then again one has to see it in person.

No worries brother Kutta, my thoughts and intentions are 100% armchair quarterback, as I have never seen a G80/82 in person. . . in other words, my opinions come with next to no credibility at this point.

I guess I'll have to be the contrarian.

The renders I've seen of the G80 are pretty much "Gack" to me-- I don't find them attractive at all.

And the big grill?

No. Just.... no.

But, my M2C? she's puuuuuuurdy.

No worries whatsoever . . . this is what it's all about. Sharing views and opinions respectfully with fellow enthusiasts.

Again, I think the common 'thread' - no pun intended - that brought us all together is an appreciation for the the F87 . . . that is the starting point.

I am exploring the next iteration of a BMW icon form the perspective of a M2C enthusiast.

I enjoy the G80 aesthetics in photos/videos presented to date; anticipate the M3C will perform up to BMW standards. . . it will be a bit of a wait to find out.

///AVM has the right idea. If you have means and desire to explore other models, I say go for it. I'm new to M onwership but I appreciate all sorts of purposeful fun cars. Let's be honest, we are all suspect about any new design or engineering until such time the new model becomes reality and start experiencing the good improvements of continued R&D. I have a different perspective as I'm appreciative BMW, Porsche, and a few others still continue to make fun and engaging platforms for us gearheads to enjoy. Honestly, that's a lot to ask and see delivered in production cars given the accelerating era of electric cars, zero emissions, and rigid EPA restrictions. I suspect one day we will all be looking back saying how nice F and G series were to drive.

Cheers

I agree, the same way today I'm still in awe over the E46s, M or even the standard and late models of E90s 330i with the "Performance Package."

I'm a tech nerd but given the opportunity, I would still beeline towards a new or a hypothetical grandma owned and driven E46 and E90s, because cars of that era, for what they lacked thereof in then modern-era gadgets and creature comforts of today, they made up for it in raw mechanical feedback and visceral performance. They was what the M2 is today but unlike the M2, those cars was BMWs bread-and-butter models for its time, instead of how the M2 is now considered niche BMW

I suspect that specifically the M2 generation, will go down in his history as the F-model that sort of went against the grain and but surprisingly to BMW, appealed to an esoteric but loyal following, for contemporary BMW standards anyways

Very true. M2 will be that wierd model in some way that was materially so different in the day compared to the higher price offerings. Let's not forget the price point either of a S55 engine in a small sized M, much like E46, offering similar performance and numbers to the higher prices offerings. That's exactly why so many of us bought the car and why your comments are right on point. Time will tell for sure - case in point 1M.

My biggest regret was selling my e46 325i. Most reliable car I owned, a blast to drive (not as much as my M2), but I had moved on to the F10 and had no reason to have an additional car. I still stare at a well maintained e46 when I see one.

Car styling is subjective. I tend to agree with you. It's not that the rear end of the car looks bad, it just looks like so many other other Japanese cars (Lexus). Mercedes and Audi still have their individual look. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder and am beholding a LBB M2C!

Indeed gang . . . car aesthetics are SOOOOOO subjective.

I think the M2C is very hard to photograph . . . just looks so much better to ME in person than any photograph I can present.

In person, it looks so much better driving down the road than it does standing still.

At any rate, I will never try to convince anyone to like the design of the G80 . . . I do think it will look better in person than in photos/videos.

Either way, what I am most interested to find out is how the G80 PERFORMS according to MY driving needs and interests ???

This x 100

M2C is almost too angular, which is why it's so difficult to capture in photos, but also the reason why it looks sooo good in person. Some wide angle cameras can do a decent job of accentuating those areas, but rarely. Otherwise, it looks disfigured in nearly every picture I have taken. When you see it in real life, the car looks a lot bulkier and far more aggressive, especially those wide ass fenders.

Fwiw, I've continually heard people/reviewers say that the new G series looks a lot better in person, which I tend to believe. The Straight Pipes did a review of the M3 and M4 comps and I have to say, I couldn't help notice how pronounced the hips were on the new M3. Not as much on the M4. I think the M3 will look great.

My only caveat is that I've read that the new grill design was mainly due to the Chinese market liking big grills. I'm not that fond of a global redesign to cater to one market. Hopefully they won't continue getting bigger... It will be interesting to see how time treats this design though. I remember people not liking the look of the E60 M5 when it came out. I think the E39 & E60 have aged very well. They are pretty timeless. Part of me thinks this could age well too. It's been too controversial to not go unnoticed in time.

I'm stoked for your planned purchase. The S58 will be worth it alone I imagine.

I think car would have looked better if it was 4-5 inches shorter in height, considering the width of the car it looks pretty tall

You and me both Poochie. I owned an E46 ZHP for 8 years and wish I had never sold it. I also had an E92 335is w/ style 313 wheels that was an absolute knockout. For me, the M2 is the new E46 and, as much as I loved my E46, I think the M2 is better in most (not all) respects. BTW, you make a great point about the fact that BMW's mainstream models used to contain the attributes that can now only be found in their niche models.

My beast required some surgery this morning . . . windshield replacement after taking heavy artillery on I-95 earlier in the week.

Dealership provided me a new Demo in form of a 2-series Grand Coupe . . . Masano Blue Metallic.

Without seeing in person, I thought photos and videos of the M2CS in Misano Blue represented a really good color.

I can attest it is a great color in person.

Sorry, meant to include a couple pics . . . brothers around these parts love the pics.

In complete honestly, not sure why BMW would put the ///M badge on this 235i?? Not as though it is a piece of shit . . . but it offers nothing in the way of a visceral driving experience.

M Bastardization is what it is. It sells cars and also sparks (apparently) interesting debates such as M3 vs M340i.

Nice pics, thanks
