Spare wheel in trunk?
I am impatiently waiting for my M2C HS/MT to be built.
I have been reading through the various threads and picking great tips on things I might need. I tried searching for this topic but it came back with too many threads to look through so apologies if asked/answered. Question: Has anyone bought a spare wheel and a jack to keep lashed down in trunk? I hate the idea of getting stuck, and I frequently drive in areas of CA Highway 1 with no cell service. Does anyone else do this? Is there some kind of "kit" to keep a wheel/jack/tire iron secure in the trunk? How well does the slime/compressor actually work on a serious puncture? I guess I could even stomach a "space saver" spare if that's gonna be kosher with the fancy electronic diff.... |

BMWs roadside assistance is very nice.
But I know peace of mind is a best state of mind. It'd be tough because of the brake clearance to find a spare that didn't take up literally your whole trunk that clears the brakes. |

If you get a spare it has to be a 19 inch wheel to clear the brakes and caliper. I would just go with the tow option.

In a previous BMW, I used to carry a full size spare, the M Mobility Kit, the BMW travel jack (which came in a nice bag/case) and a tire plug kit.
I never ended up using any of it -- only got flats in my driveway due to slow leaks. So I stopped carrying anything when I got my M2. But if I was taking a long trip, or out of cell phone range, I definitely would sacrifice my trunk space to be prepared -- calling a tow on a trip or far from home is a major inconvience. |

'i had the same concern, but there wasn't an off the shelf spare tire kit option with a 19" donut spare that could clear the brakes. When I switched out to the 763m wheels, I kept my stocks, so I'm using a front 788m wheel with a BMW M tire cover and a spare tire a jack kit (jack, lug wrench and 18" round foam holder thing) I bought off eBay from an X3 or something. So, it's basically a spare tire kit with a full size front. Takes up a lot of room in the trunk though.

Put a skateboard in the trunk and call it a day.

I got a flat after a year of driving. Huge hole, the only saving grace was that I was less than a mile from a bmw dealership. Caught the leak at like 24 psi and was at about 15 psi by the time I pulled up to the dealership.
I’ll probably get a set of winters one of these days and then just use one as a spare. Don’t love the idea of taking up the entire trunk but I honestly don’t fill it up that often and I can always leave the spare at home when I run to ikea or Costco. |
