Dreaded ChargePipe Failure. 2018 M2

Well it finally happened. 2018 M2 DCT LCI.
I hit 51,000 miles recently...out of warranty, so I ordered an AA Intercooler and chargepipe combo almost 2 months ago to protect myself. Unfortunately, I only received the CP last week...a CTS one since AA was still back ordered from Extreme Powerhouse.

Last night, on the way to Thanksgiving dinner...heard the “pop” from the engine and felt power cut out. The engine did this weird idle at 3k RPM. Immediately, pulled off the freeway and opened the hood.

Got the car towed today and got the new AA intercooler and CTS chargepipe installed.

Attached are install pictures

Is that gap supposed to be there and is that ok?

Your car tuned? I've heard a bit about the charge pipe issue, but does this normally happen to non-tuned cars?

Yes. The aftermarket metal charge pipes are designed to have a slight gap for metal expansion.

Can happen to tuned and completely stock cars. It's what happens when you have a plastic pipe that flexes on one end with the motor and is stationary on the other IC side.

Snap Ring Clip

When I push mine (N55 M235i) onto the throttle body - the locking ring clip snapped into place and an audible click confirmed it was engaged.

I would try this and see if it doesn't click and hold the Chargepipe in alignment.

@F87Melb I’ve been on VF stage 1 for 2 years. Maybe I’ll finally jump up to stage 2.

@123Britt I’ll try and align the pipes and try to get the click

BMW recently revised the stock charge pipe with a more robust version, which has held up fine for me within the last 8 months or so:

Would be nice if we could go in and have this swapped out prior to failure, thanks for the update.
