Oil Leaks
Am approaching end of my warranty and was wondering if there are any areas of concern as far as oil leaks on this engine. I have 30,000 miles on my engine that has been tracked and after inspecting could not believe this engine has no oil leaks at all. It looks as if it just came out of the factory. Does anyone have any leaks that were repaired under warranty? Any areas of concern?

At around 60k miles, my n55 had its oil filter housing gasket replaced under warranty. That's about it. No other issues with that engine 🙂

on the N55 the OFHG is a common point of failure above 50k just keep it in mind. If not repaired, oil will seep out onto the serpentine belt which can cause catastrophic failure.
From my research it seems to requires that you ensure proper priming before starting the engine after the repair otherwise you risk increased wear or potentially seize on the first startup after repair. I've seen a few stories of people getting the gaskets repaired by mechanics who aren't experienced with this procedure. Last edited by nioh_lbbm2; 11-12-2020 at 08:16 AM.. |

I replaced my oil pan gasket under warranty this year after only 6,000 miles. Probs just bad luck, forum consensus was that it was way to early lol.

Anyone know if the OFHG on the M2 N55 a DIY-able task? Just wondering when (since it seems to be a question of not if but when) this happens, if it's a task that a semi-mechanically inclined guy can handle.
EDIT: I did some searching, and looks like this is a pretty involved process. If replacing a gasket the diameter of a coke can on top of the motor involves removing the front strut, you know youre in for a good time lol. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/at...4&d=1491698250 S
