Looks cool but I don't want to give up a cup holder nor do I want to have to use two hands to remove my phone from where it is. Bing that my phone overheats when charging in the arm rest area I went with a vent mounted magnetic qi charger so it's easy to put on/take off and the AC can cool it down if it gets too hot:

This is a great idea if there wasnt one already built in.
Id like to try to get mine to work first before blocking cup holders or vents

I did the bracket mod. I have yet to actually use it even once since because it's a slow charger and it keeps my phone buried in the armrest.

I've seen other posts where people remove the lower bracket to fit their devices but I want that bracket to hold my phone in place. What I did instead was to 3d model a new bracket that would give me about an extra inch of extra room, printed it using a 3d printer, and reassembled the charger cradle with the printed component.

Result: it works! The design is not perfect but I fixed my biggest issue with the car. Posting pictures to show the end result. Thanks!

EDIT: I have posted detailed instructions on the removal and install of this bracket here: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1534787

If anyone wants this part, you can purchase it here https://www.shapeways.com/product/XY...ionId=70892401
The link for the part doesn't seem to work for me. Any chance to post a new link or attach the file to print?

I'll pay of course for the part and your time
The part is not available from Shapeways anymore unfortunately. I have uploaded the model here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3819314. You can either download the model and print it yourself (or use a 3d printing service) or click the "Order this printed" button.

Big thanks to SteveC90 for making this available. He was very responsive to PMs when I contacted him about it a while back.

It works like a champ... except that it hangs up a little while sliding because I dropped the tiny screws that attach the 3D printed bracket and couldn't find them, so I used some hard drive case screws that are just a little bit too large.

Does anybody have the dimensions of the screws and/or a part number? (I couldn't find a part number on RealOEM because BMW didn't plan on people tearing apart the wireless charging unit!)

This is fantastic. Before I pull the trigger, do we need to change any of the configuration parameters before ordering? It pops up with 17% infill, >0.2mm layer thickness, and the material in PLA (it shows white but I was going to change it to black).

Also, has anyone tried to code in a higher voltage to the charger to see if it'll speed it up at all? My phone gets fairly hot in there as it is, so this might be a terrible idea, but still thought I'd ask.

Is there any interest in an improved charger itself? From what I have read, the efficiency of the stock solution must be terrible if it's causing phones to go into thermal protection.

If I get an M2 in the next few months I may look into the feasibility of redesigning the Qi charger. Would go along with this mod.

Since the wiring is already there I've wondered if it would be possible to remove the stock cradle, buy one of those stick-on Qi pads, and just attach that to the underside of the tray that comes with non-wireless charging cars. Don't know if the existing wiring provides the necessary voltage, etc., or if the material of the insert would preclude charging, but I think that would be a better solution. Then you could either use it as a charger or just storage, depending on your needs that day. It's not like I'm worried about my phone flying around in that tiny console.

If you're one who likes to tinker with things, I HIGHLY recommend getting a 3D printer. Good quality low cost options are easily available. My printer has paid for itself 6x over... Even if it hadn't, the amount of enjoyment you get out of designing and printing your own stuff is awesome. I have printed tons of useful items that get used daily around my apartment.

Hi Steve

Would love to get your model printed.
Any chance I can get the files?
The link above doesn’t have it anymore.
Getting a 404 when trying to download.
Many thanks!
