Why not? He's made more comments regarding an M2 CSL but that's because it's his job to fan the flames of interest in these forums, but he has also mentioned an M2 cabrio has a higher chance of appearing now than when the 1M was conceived.

Since the M2 will be closed, do you have an opinion about whether there is any benefit to using a modified N55 vs. a modified B58 for the M2?

I'm glad no one thinks it's *my* job to fan the flames of interest in these forums.. I would need a raise!

The basic engine is used in both vehicles of internally N55 called inline six-cylinder with 3.0 liters of displacement and a twin scroll turbocharger, however, some components from the S55 care referred biturbo engine of BMW M3 and M4 for more stability and allow an increase of boost pressure and injection quantity , added an optimized air intake and an optimized exhaust system.

The torque and power diagram shown below shows the 360-hp N55 variant for the BMW X4 M40i, the rated output lies at 5,800 and 6,000 r between / min. We currently estimate that the 370 hp version of the N55 will not provide its rated output in such a wide area, as well as can be expected with a little more torque.

The increase in performance compared to the normally offered with 306, 320 or 326 hp base engine is possible because BMW uses some parts of the 431-hp S55 engine in the N55. The forged steel crankshaft, the crankshaft bearings and the special pistons and high-power spark plugs values the inner life of the N55 to clearly and allow an increase in the peak power combined with optimum durability in most sports use.

Thanks to further improved cooling with a separate oil cooler of the engine of the BMW M2 should also stresses how the beloved by many customers stakes survive without complaint on tracks like the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The official presentation of the BMW M2 with all technical details and numerous photographs is scheduled for October
So it seems the engine basically IS a detuned S55. The only notable difference is twin turbo vs twin-scroll single turbo.

Do not forget the top mount water to air cooler.

Lol you're reaching there feller.

Back when the M2 was being whispered about and all the way up until now it's been pretty much accepted it will be a "derivative" of the N55.

Exactly.

Don't forget, difference between S55 and N55B30T0:
Different bore/stroke
Intake/Exhaust valves
Turbo(s)
Intercooler
Coolant pump/thermostat
Intake
Etc., etc.

Not a "detuned S55", the M2/X4 M40i motor is the "top" level derivative of the N55, per BMW.

When we see the M4 GTS, it will be the tuned version of the S55, i.e. S55B30Sx

Everyone is missing the fact that the S55 stroke was reduced compared to the N55, allowing it to rev much higher. They coupled that with two turbos that were smaller than the N54 1M turbos to give it the instant torque and throttle response.

The M2 N55 will have better response than the normal N55, but don't expect to see peak power much beyond 6k rpm if at all. That motor wasn't designed to rev high no matter what size turbo is on it.

But there are details that are wrong. It's definitely the right idea and what not, but it's far from 99% accurate.

There are just things on there that makes the front end look bulkier than it really is, while the rear flares are as wide as they should be.

Will it be night and day difference? No. But the rear deal will be better IMO. Not to mention these cars always tend to look better IRL on top of that
I understand, but I dislike everything about the rear of that car. I'll reserve final judgment until the release, but I'm not expecting major changes. I highly doubt that my opinion will change.

Doesn't look like the air to water cooling system is incorporated in this n55, which is another big difference

to me it's way more n55 than s55. Different turbo setup and cooling system is a big difference
