Towhook design

I was thinking about rhe towhook and where its mounted,

Isnt it bad design? Shouldn't it be in the middle?

Its off to the side and if you were to start pulling the car wouldnt that cause unneeded stress? Lopsided ?

Am i missing something here?

Its off to the side so we have somewhere to mount our license plates!!

You're right, its not optimal from a leverage standpoint especially when being pulled from an angle but it seems tough enough... Speaking from experience lol.

It's where the tow hook on BMWs has been for ages. I have to assume it's engineered into the design.
