Rear quarter panel PPF
Havent seen anyone mention this.
My car came with rear quarter panel PPF. I thought it was meant for protection during transport. I asked bmw to remove them at my break in service but they told me its there to protect rocks and shit from being kicked up by the front tires. Everybody has it?? |

I removed it and put a much larger piece on. That quarter panel is going to get crushed by rock chips, I suggest you cover it with a bigger piece

Mine had it as well. Apparently it's a very high traffic area for rock chips so it comes standard. I had a full wrap done so it was removed from mine.

Should be about 2 inches in front of the rear wheels leading up to the start of the door line

You're looking in the wrong place. It's closer to the sideskirt and a bit further foward.

But yeah, unless you're also doing rear quarter panel XPEL, leave it on the car. |

Just met with my local XPEL shop today to look at the rear quarter piece cut design. It is a much larger coverage area than the cheap factory protection. My M2C is new and I can already see yellowing of the BMW film as well.
I’ll be removing the factory piece and having the XPEL piece put in it’s place along with full hood, bumper, front quarter, mirrors, door cup, A-Pillar and front roof coverage applied next week. |

May I ask who do you use here? I know and use a couple excellent installers in case you need one.
Akkando's illustration above is perfect example of what is needed on the rear quarter. Xpel's quarter panel piece is far too small for that area. I caught a few very small chips above their pattern. My installer created a larger piece than Xpel's, one similar to what Akkando did. You may already know but you'll need someone who can confidently cut custom pieces on the car as Xpel's plotter does not cut patterns like the one above. I have the same full front, door cups, lower doors, extended rocker panel kit and the rear bumper top below the deck lid. It can really save you if there. "A" pillars and leading edge of the roof as well.

My OEM rear quarter panel triangle PPF showed scuffs/yellowing within the first month. I don't know if it was like that since delivery and I never noticed, but it definitely developed strange staining after a few hundred miles. I ended up getting a majority of the car wrapped in Xpel and they used a single piece spanning from the A pillar all the way back to the rear arches. If it's within your budget, I would recommend going that route as it eliminates any unsightly edges that collect dirt.

I just picked up my M2C a couple weeks ago, my car does have the PPF as mentioned but that is a dealer installed option, it was listed on my window sticker as Paint Protection Level 1. It was $279 I believe. It has a small section in front of the rear tire area on the rear quarter panel, a small strip on the doors edge, and PPF section at the trunk area to protect the paint when loading/unloading items I assume.
