F22 came out in 2013. F87 M2 came in 2017. SOP for G42 is 8/2021. So the earliest date we should expect G42(?) M2 is 2025?

Not so fast...I suspect C/D will discover it's no faster than the M2C.

Or maybe even the LCI...

So the bi-turbo S58 is the new king of the hill..

I still have love for the S55 but if they truly improved the exhaust sound and start it with 500hp/tq stock, I'm going to have to dump it and make the S58 my new crush..

Like they say; off to bigger and better..

I've said it before and will say it again. The S55 motor will be forgotten. Not special enough to be memorable, not expandable enough to be legendary. They did what they could with the N55 which was built in a different economic environment for BMW. The S58 will be a gem though with the M2 variant being fantastic.

I have no idea what this next M2 will look like though. Feel like BMWs new design language won't translate well to a small car.

It will be interesting to see if BMW continues the trend of offering both the "base" M2 and the Competition model out of the gate as they have with the X3/4 and X3/4 Comp....however given that it will now be the same engine in both variants, my assumption is that any aftermarket tunes will be "capped" at same level regardless of where you start (base v. comp).

Whatever shall we fight about...ugh...I mean discuss then??

They'll detune it to 425 HP. The Pure M3 will be 444 HP/base 475/comp 503.

I think they've mentioned that being the model moving forward.

Comp release right on the heels of the "base" model....if you can call an M that.

It's excellent marketing, you essentially get all these snobby M owners bumping themselves in price point in order to not be labeled "base" M lol

I hope the sound gets better but I have my doubts since it's two turbos again so it basically sounds like two 3 cylinder engines.

There comes a point (I know, silly me) when there is actually too much power.

The M5 and M6 are in this category. When, on sticky summer tires the stock car cannot maintain traction and that little DSC light keeps flashing, there is just too much power. It's great for marketing, not so much for driving on the street.

I think the M2, as is (OG, non-C) is a well balanced compromise, and long after the S58 has been replaced with a 4 gigawatt impulse engine, the "real" M2 will be appreciated for what it was.

FWIW, I had a 340i with the B58 and I didn't think it was all that.

I heard some say it sounds way better and then others said it's sounds like the S55 but it's all heresy until we get a proper aural clip. So far they only released a teaser.

The motor is the real deal though; it's ironclad judging from the specs. B58 architecture but built from the bottom up for the M lineage.

Power is not the issue anymore, traction is what we will all be scavenging for..

I can picture the rivalry already; "My car has more grip than yours"

I'm in if it sounds like a N55 and makes 600 whp with a 93 octane tune.

You can get an idea of the sound by listening to the X3/X4M Nurburgring test mule videos that have been out for a few months.

It sounds quite a bit better, and is what kept me from thinking about switching to the S55.

The M2 S58 is only about 6 years out, along with a Brexit, a housing crash, a Trump re-election, and other extremely predictable, stable things. I'm gonna sell my M2 RIGHT NOW (cuz I don't want it to lose value) and just wait for the new S58 M2. No, wait, I'm going to wait for the S58 M2 Competition, so 8 years. Yes, that makes the most sense.

Design will def be something to keep in mind. By then it will be a whole new one rather than a facelift.
