IND | Fall Line Motorsports F87 M2 Comp Oil Cooler Guard

S55-equiped cars are incredibly well sorted from a cooling standpoint. Even in a road course environment with extremely high ambient temperatures, the S55 engine tends to operate beautifully, with consistent oil and water temperatures. Although excellent ducting, good core design, strong fans, and other factors all play in to how well a cooling system works, there are ultimately two factors which cannot be circumvented—you must have enough heat exchanger surface area, and you must have enough heat exchangers.

These constraints have left the S55 with a “fatal flaw”—the engine’s oil cooler is precariously exposed. A direct impact to the oil cooler can have catastrophic effects, draining the S55 of all of its oil in seconds, a dire fate that several owners have experienced in a painfully direct way.

In response to this, Fall-Line Motorsports has developed a robust oil cooler guard, specifically designed to shield the S55’s oil cooler from large road debris and prevent much more costly damage.

For the best real-world protection, the S55 oil cooler guard is constructed from a thick stainless steel plate and fastens directly to existing frame members to help spread the impact load across strong structural components. As an acknowledgement of BMW M’s aforementioned air flow engineering, special care was taken to ensure that the opening in the oil cooler guard matched the shape and size of the existing BMW oil cooler air outlet.

@IND-Distribution

- Will this obstruct the fitment of a front lip?
- How many can you fit in the same box for international shipping?
- Any installation instructions as yet?

Looks good!

Not that anyone could see, but an anodized black finish would be nice!

For the groupbuy? I am only dealing with Europe, shipping to here and then to Asia is not a smart thing to do.

Perhaps find a few more people in Asia and you could do the same at your end.

Any chance IND-Distribution can powder coat this one black like they do for their F90 M5 cooler guard (https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...hp?t=1566129)?

I just checked the price and it's pretty steep, but after reading this post (https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1550991) I can see why this product would be worth purchasing. M2C ownership just gets more expensive the more time I spend on this forum

P.S. can someone tell me how to @ someone's name in a post so they get notified? Cheers!

I think you can paint in electrostatic field what color you want and the cost is minor.

Is there is someone from IND who could answer to the following questions?
- How easily car can be restore to genuine (which parts will have to be bought again. I have already noticed that some existing holes have to be enlarged - impact of that ?, the underpanel that will have to be replaced etc...) ?
- Nuts & bolt in SAE or metric ?
- Impact of that change on regular maintenance operations (if for oil change a specific procedure is required etc...) ?

Can someone who is going to install this, post a video or more detailed pictures of the steps? Some of the steps are not exactly clear on the instructions.

They have instructions on the site. I attached photos.

You will want to use a rivnut gun in my opinion - they mention using a hammer to hammer the rivnut in but it doesn't squesh it securely the way a rivnut gun does. I use rivnuts a lot on the race car.

Guys, the question of going back to stock has been asked a few times now. IND hasn't commented yet, but why do you want to go back to stock? Do you honestly think the next owner is going to be pissed you improved the car against a possible problem? I think that is leverage that saves you in any discussion.

Personally, I feel it should be reversible looking at the manual, but you need to buy some parts new since those have been cut. Am I correct guys?

Also I am going to drop you all a PM, since Ryan and I had a mail conversation about the cost of shipping, etc... Let me know your thoughts if you still like the idea of shipping it over.
