You guys who did the front lip, did you install it yourselves? How difficult is it?

I'm definitely getting the front splitter even if it reduces clearance some. The CF front lip I had on my last car took on several of the scratches that my front bumper would have eaten, and I much prefer it that way.

Here are the installation instructions:

I had mine installed at a shop, but it seems to be pretty easy to do. The glue part is a bit sketchy, but you can't really misalign it.

It’s pretty easy. Part aligns very well. There’s two holes you have to drill if I remember correctly. And even though the instructions call out to use liquid adhesive I would recommend just doing it with 3m automotive tape. Just make sure the surfaces are cleaned and properly primed and it’ll hold.

Does it come with automotive tape already applied to it, like the rear spoiler does?

No. Also the plastic pins and screws needed have separate part numbers.

Definitely going to use 3m adhesive tape. That's plenty considering it also bolts to the car.

I would think that 3M adhesive tape would be enough. That way it can be easily removed and sold when the time comes for a trade-in.

^This. If something happens you can remove it far easier than dealing with betalink. Also, theres a bit of a design flaw as far as I see it which is the lip covers some of the bolts needed to remove the front bumper, so if you ever need to remove the bumper...

Can you elaborate on these achilles' heels? Hadn't seen these mentioned before, tried searching and not finding much. I'm all about prevention and promoting longevity lol

Pictures to come when Chicago stops being crappy outside.

Had the local shop put on:
  • M Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser
  • IND Alpine White Front Reflector Deletes
  • IND Black Honeycomb Rear Reflector Deletes
  • AutoTecknic Carbon Fiber Paddles
  • M Performance Carbon Fiber/Alcantera Interior Trim (Shifter/Shifter Surround/Brake)
  • M Performance Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel Insert
  • IND Red M1/M2 Buttons
  • Spraypaint rear muffler

Unfortunately AutoTecknic sent two passenger side CF Mirror Caps so waiting for the drivers side in the mail. Now those will wait until I can place an order on the M Performance CF front splitter. Car is starting to look proper and how it should come from the factory.

Have you tried fitting them? I didn't have much luck with the AutoTecknic carbon mirror caps. Terrible fitment near the hinge portion on both sides. Luckily I was able to get a refund (minus shipping cost ).

The shop put one on before finding out they sent two of the same so I can't comment on that. Do you have a picture of what you're talking about? The shop sent me one but I'm sure it doesn't show what you're talking about:

To their credit they offered to replace them at no cost but I wasn't confident they would fit well so I just went with oem M-Performance. They did look okay from far away...

OK yea, I see the gap thins out and widens. I don't' see that on mine from my pic (you can click to zoom way in). I wonder if there were different runs to fix that. Can't tell if my mind is playing tricks on me with my picture.

Appreciate you pointing this out so I can look for it when they get installed. Good looking out.

1. The oil cooler is at the bottom of the engine and covered by a plastic skid guard. If you hit anything in the road you risk puncturing your oil cooler and losing oil pressure quite rapidly. This has already happened to forum members.
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1566129

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1579322

2. The charge air cooler (top of motor) has a tendency to leak coolant internally which spills into your intake and can hydrolock your engine. It has happened to several M3/M4 owners already.
https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1570544

3. The S55 (and many other engines these days) has a "friction" fit crank hub vs one with a keyway and woodruff key that holds it to the end of the crankshaft. This friction can be overcome with high rpm resonance either backing the crank bolt out, stretching it, or simply a failure of the friction disc between the hub and crank. This results in the crank and your cams getting out of timing with each other. (This is an interference engine i.e. valves will hit pistons if not timed correctly)
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1492290

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...2#post24407562

4. The rear differential is mounted via 1 mount or "ear" which means all torsional forces are put against that one point which can act almost like a fulcrum or pivot point. Read stories of older performance BMW's of the past with single ear diffs...
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...8#post24275208

Hope that helps.

While not 'today'. had an interesting weekend last week at Thunderhill where somehow after a lap with new Pagid RS29 pads, my front right caliper lost one of its bolts and other sheered as I was exiting the pits into the paddock. It cut into the brake line and mangled the backing plate in the process.

One of my next upgrades was going to be the brakes anyway so I'll probably go with the Brembo BBK in red.

As an aside, if anyone needs a better indicator as to why one shouldn't bother with stock pads on racetracks, this is what 2 days at Buttonwillow and 1 day at Laguna did to my stock front pads (in amongst ~6k of regular road driving)
