M2 Comp or 911 Carrera 4S

Just dreaming/spitballing here. Getting to the point where I want to simplify certain aspects of my life and lets just say some asset unloading isn't impossible over the coming months. Might leave me with enough money to pick up a brand new M2 Competition or a gently used 991 Carrera 4S.

While the Z4 M Roadster has been an amazing summer toy its raining or winter most of the time here in this part of Canuckland and I'd like to spice things up on the daily drive when its not in use.

What I'd like:

-Small car that seats at least four
-Sporty, responsive, punchy throttle and handles like stink. 0-60 at 4.5s or better

-Dual personality; comfortable enough to be a daily driver but sporty enough to not get bored
-RWD or AWD preferred
-No hatchbacks
-Manual gearbox
-Moonroof preferred (sorry 1M)

Really looking at the M2 Competition and a used 911 Carrera 4S. Eliminated the M240i, current gen M2 (just because of the Comp model). Love the idea of the M2 Comp with the S55 and getting a brand new car with warranty. But sort of bored with BMW and to a certain degree its EPS, thinking of getting something more exotic like a 911 Carrera 4S which I would use in winter thanks to the AWD. Assume it would do better than the M2 Comp in that regard. In the case of the Porsche I may keep the 128i for Home Depot runs and for slightly more comfortable passenger carrying duties. Thought about a 1M but maybe not fast enough and no sunroof. M2 has the advantage that I can just keep two cars; not sure I can eliminate a car with trunk space and more passenger space in the case of picking up a 911.

I know this is kind of a ridiculous comparison but give me your thoughts. Looking to spice up my car life with the right new DD.

When you say 'seat four' are you talking about adults?

Yes but I only like to carry around the tiny kind in the back seat if you know what I mean

I already have a pure two seater in the Z4 M. Don't want a Cayman for example.

No kids, just a nephew.

Would consider an M240xi if it came in a stick.

Can adults ride comfortably in the backseat of a 911 for short trips?

The M2 comes closer to seating four but the roofline kind of slopes downward or something and reduces headroom. I was surprised since my 135is actually has more backseat headroom and I thought it would be the same in the 2 series.

The back seats in the 911 are merely placeholders, nothing more really.

But choosing one or the other.....I’d go 4s all day.

I almost always just but the back seats down in my 911's because you can't seat two adults there. Maybe get an M4 which has a little more room?

The cars you are looking at are not in the “seat 4” category. M3, Gulia, RS4, ATS-V, those are more squarely in the “seats 4” category, and even those aren’t always the best for 4 adults, but they’ll at least do it without being ridiculous.

I'd go with a 991.1 c4s if you need the awd and can find one priced close to a new M2c.

I've shoved two adults in the back seat of a 911 but it was a cab so at least they got the headroom lol. The seats are fine for regular sized kids under the age of 10 or hoochies under 5ft.

911 for sure, but Adults in the back is simply not going to work.
M4 maybe the solution to your pratical requirements.

Porsche all day everyday. The rear seats are as everyone else has said are not real seats except for very small children....but the car is heads and tails above the BMW.

Looking at current market prices it will be a pretty early 991.1 or a 997.2 for M2 comp prices if you want a C4S.

I would be perfectly happy with a Carrera S PDK and you can find 06+ well below $40k depending on condition and miles. 4s is awesome but the rwd Carrera S is spectacular too.

Porsche over BMW of course. But when you add the milage to the Porsche to make it comparable in price, I question if all those people above would still pick the Porsche. If so, why they hanging in a BMW forum?

That is definitely a big part of the decision for me for sure. I wouldn't be lying if I said I'd really like to get a full warranty for the kind of $$ being spent especially with what I've heard happens if a 911 needs work or maintenance.

Got a call from the dealership today, they wanted to make a deal on a M2 with my 128i as a trade in. No official pricing on the M2C here in Canuckland yet though :|

how do you feel about turbos?

have recently gone from a 981CS to m240i...i can tell you i miss natural aspiration big time

991 c4s are very pricey... 120k cdn minimum so the m2c is a different price point

It would be a used first year 991.1. You can get them with 80k km or so for just a bit higher than M2C I believe. Brand new they start at $120k I believe with zero options (which for a Porsche means add another $20k with options )

thats a good amount of miles for a 991, adding much more to that would cause the resale to fall off a cliff if that matters to you.
