It's the complete opposite here. I see a lot of M3/M4s, 3-4-5-6 series, X series. IMO the 2 series is not appealing to the masses and there is not a lot of demand or market share for small coupes anymore.

LA is much larger than NYC and much more spread out like one huge suburb with different neighborhoods. I recently moved from NYC. If you live in the city, I would assume it's more dense in the area you live in with people and cars so you may see more than many have seen outside of a dealership. Or the M2/M2Cs are just more popular in the US on the east coast vs west coast.

EDIT: When I lived in NYC, I never saw one OG M2 walking or riding my motorcycle in or outside the city.

so my guess is somewhere in that range of M2Cs (4000-7000 depending on how long production of the M2C lasts). certainly not 'rare' by any means. the M2 is one of the biggest selling M cars for BMW so they build as many as they can limited only by production capabilities...
That is excellent reasoning and sounds like a solid number. I wonder though if the numbers will still be less for the M2C. My thinking is that M2 owners are the most likely buyers. Many of them will keep their M2s or 1Ms. So they are out of the market. And I agree with others that demand for a 2 door sedan is low in general in the US.

I heard from my BMW rep that their are discontinuing the s55 platform with the release of the new m3 m4s (which everyone already knows), and with that the M2c will end as well. The engines were put into that platform only until they run out then its over. Also I cant imagine based off history BMW they will do a long run of a car that essnetially rivals the flagship M4.

I don't believe that to be fully accurate. F87 M2 Production is to end 6/21, about 8 months after the F83 M4 ends production. Details are available here:
