Apple CarPlay Wirelessly or via USB Cable Only?

In a 2018 M2, do you have to connect the iPhone via a USB cable to access CarPlay or will the iPhone interact with CarPlay wirelessly with all functionality?

I wish it worked with USB, but unfortunately BMW's are wireless only for Car Play

What he said.

I complained I was having a lot of Bluetooth connectivity issues so they did the software update.

Takes 3-4hours.

Problem is some folks like myself have wayyyyyy too much coding to justify an istep update. There's no way in hell I'd be okay with redoing everything manually.

Is there a way to make a backup file of your cars settings with esys? Bimmercode backups are wiped after istep updates.

Absolutely no idea personally. I guess I'm lucky there's not much coding I've had done!

Thanks to Wibbles/ BR Diagnostics, I finally have fullscreen CarPlay on my M2C with “P” firmware!!!
His (new) method is automated (not sure this is the right word...) and required running an application on my Windows laptop, connected to the internet (I used the iPhone as an hotspot) and to the M2C (via an Ethernet-OBD cable).
Wibbles instructions were clear and all process felt quite robust / glitch proof (bare in mind this was my first experience with remote coding... and using the Ethernet-OBD Cable) so everything worked out OK (it did take a few minutes... and I got a bit anxious ).

First impressions on CarPlay: it’s very responsive and fullscreen Google Maps look(s) great; also switching back and forth between CarPlay and iDrive was easier than I expected...

Awesome.. the full screen didn't bug me until yesterday when I used google maps for the first time, and I was like wtf..

On a side note is there a way to enable the sms in CarPlay to be visible in conjunction with the read back and the same with sms dictation

I will simply use Spotify via the Bluetooth works fine.

My 2018 came with Apple Car Play as a $300 option. No annual fee.

I do use it. I especially like it reading text that come in.

I did notice that in the US market, but I am in the land down under and we get screwed in everything we buy including paying a small fortune for cars.
I used to live in Seattle loved it just down from the Pike street markets.

I have it in my 2018 Honda Accord, it was free and works great. Sucks that BMW tries to extort you for this.

I just looked on Wibbles / BR Diagnostics Facebook page - He's taking a break due to being overworked. I am not surprised considering the amount of work he must have been doing for everyone on this forum
