Really nice day with the rain holding off despite the constant threat. Second time ever visiting Lightning. Starting to learn my way around but still have some room for improvement. 1:15 flat in this video. Dipped into the 1:14s but didn't get it recorded with Harry's Lap Timer analytics.

Working on whittling away some time towards the 1 min mark. Have been making progress but still need to find about half a second. I think the car has the capability in it, just need the perfect day with cool weather, a lap with no traffic and a clear mind.

That time for East w/ the bypass is not bad, but all that matters is that you improved by 6 seconds!

My first time on track with the M2 this past Saturday at The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, WA. The car is bone stock and it has 1800 miles on it. Only thing I changed was the brake fluid to Motul RBF 660. At the end of the day, I’d really only like to change out the brake pads to something more track worthy like Pagid RS29s.

I spent the first three and a half sessions in Sport or Traction to get a feel for when DSC comes on. I’ve been tracking a TT RS for the past few years (prior to that it was a Z4MC for many years), so wanted to get my self calibrated to the M2. Did the last session with DSC fully off.

In Sport and Traction modes DSC comes on often and simply makes the car less fun. And the pattern seems to be when tracking out and getting onto straights. Even if I was super gentle with the throttle, it would still kick in a bit and cut throttle. I didn’t try Sport+ as the throttle sensitivity is just too much.

DSC Off is nirvana. This car just comes alive and is predictable and a ton of fun. Tracking out is just small slip angles in the rear, but there is good feedback from the tires. If you go in too hot, a momentary breathe of the throttle and minor steering correction bring things back on track. For a stock car, this is quite amazing. My best time was 2:03.45; while this is 7s off my pace in the TT RS, I believe I can get to a flat 2:00 with brake pads and some seat time as I was still being a bit careful given the car is so new

Upped my time at Summit Point - Shenandoah to a 1:38.7 a couple weeks ago. Still has more, and pretty sure I had a better lap in a later session. Then it rained...

Was at WGI with Ferrari club which offered some really cool cars to check out including a Porsche 962 and 333 prototype. I got passed coming out of the Esses by none other than Giancarlo Fisichella in a 488 GT4 like I was standing still. He was already out there for a bunch of laps and it was my out lap but I don't think it would have made a huge difference. I timed him doing around high 1:40s.

A little let down by my lap time as I expected to be able to get sub 0:10s. The off and on rain and long waiting periods between sessions didn't help. Nor did my first session slide in the transition part of the Esses on day one.

Video is pretty crappy as the mic failed and the GoPro settings were somehow automatically changed from my last track day. Best lap starts around 14:00.

Summit Point Main in August '18 in my 535 ran 1:37.5

Summit Point Main in October with PCA ran 1:29.5 in my stock M2 with 1200 miles on it. This is video of one of the sessions:

PS: went for a few laps with a BMW instructor Joe G (isjoey) who really showed my what the car can do with just better brake fluid, pads and camber plates. I understand he routinely runs in the 22s, so that's my goal for next year with similar setup.

Nice run, especially for your first weekend in the car! isjoey is the man. Altho, I’m gunning for him when I get the right tread on my car.

And, don’t worry, we’ll have you sub 25’s in no time.

You betcha! Working with RRT to get my car setup for the spring. Going camber plates and pads first to get a base and then going to do wheels and tires to see how much difference that makes.

... let's post times along with rubber and size moving forward. I'll pull together a spreadsheet so that we can do a more objective comparison. See you on the tarmac!

Thanks Zack! Two things that made the biggest difference:

1. More seat time with a good instructor
2. Upgraded brakes allowing me to get deeper into a corner before braking, and a solid feel throughout the session with just a hint of brake fade

It's so cool having the perspective of what a talented driver can do in the M2. I just spent the weekend on Shenandoah with PCA, and my best lap was 1:42. Happy with the time-- I just started on the track last year and had 4 events going into this weekend. I've ridden along with Joe and with John A, and it doesn't even seem like the same car. Those guys are amazing on the track.

Thank you for the kind words! I'd like to think I am becoming a good driver.

A 1:42.3 is a great lap! Especially given your only four events in.

Have the M Performance Coilovers on now, hoping I can make the June HPDE I am signed up for at Shenandoah.

Hockenheimring Grand Prix. 2017 M2 manual with Michelin PSS tires and PFC 08 pads. Unfortunately on stock brake fluid causing early termination of most session dues to uncomfortably long pedal. Best of the day was 2:08.7

Watkins Glen

I've been doing DEs for just under a year, and had 11 days on various tracks going into this event, so still pretty new and it was my first time at the Glen. Did one session with an instructor, then solo'd the rest of the time (could've benefited from more instruction, but had a lot of fun). NASA NE gave us 5 sessions per day, which was awesome. Great group of people, too.

I'm taking the car to Atlanta Motorsports Park this weekend and looking for some advice regarding tire pressure. I have the stock Conti and tried deflating them a bit but the TPMS wouldn't let me change the drive mode to Sport+ or DSC off. Is there any way around this?

Also, what's the ideal cycle for changing oil after tracking? I had a Focus RS and it would get really hot so I'd change oil quite often.
