I routinely tow ~850lb. No problem.

Wow, that's both of our street bikes. Crazy to think we could tow our motorcycles and a few tires in the car and do a track day. Sounds like we could do this hitch and forgo the cheap truck we have been looking at if we get a trailer with brakes.

When you made your cut out in diffuser what did you use ? Was it a Dremmel? Also, did you use a template , to get the cut out in the right position. I am seriously considering going this route to carry TT.

You guys must bring a lot to the track! Lol

My track wheels will fit in the back seat which leaves the trunk open for a small jack and toolbox. Don't really need much else!

Dremel used. No template. Just measured width of receiver and centered.

Thanks, I"m a little concerned about cutting the diffuser, other than that installing the hitch seems pretty straightforward. Leroy engineering has a tire trailer that will fit a Quick Lift, I'm considering that. As far as putting tires in back seat, I"m 6.5 hours to Watkins Glenn and at my height don"t want to drive that long with the steering wheel in my chest.

Yeah I'm thinking about doing this for my m2 as well, but I think a better choice for me would be getting a truck/trailer combo because I carry E85, distilled water (water injection), tires, tools, jacks etc. Which may end up being too heavy for the m2 to tow, and someone will probably steal something at the track if I left it in the pits while I drove.

PS: Do you guys have track day insurance or what do you guys do? For me I always had to buy track insurance before I hit the track.

Verify part number

My mechanics says the Curt hitch number 11367 if for a 4-series X-drive. Can you verify that is the hitch you used on your M2?

Thanks much,

Jim

Sorry I just realized my above post made zero sense without some more context.

How much can the m2 tow without damaging itself? It doesn't say in the manual so I'm just curious to see if maybe this hitch would work for my needs.

Is track insurance mandatory in Canada? I have never bought track insurance for my Track Days.

No it's not mandatory, but there is a specific section in a street insurance policy that says racing or timed events void the insurance. So if you crash on the track you'll have to pay out of pocket unless you have track insurance.

Does your insurance in the US cover track days?

No, my street insurance does not cover track, It's a gamble I am willing to take. Most street insurance will not cover track. You use E85 in your M2? Or do you have another car you track?

This is the hitch I am buying for my M2. It is used on several model BMWs.

Yeah I'm not willing to gamble on that because there are always idiots with absolute piles of garbage on the track and that could end bad if they colide into you. So I always will have track insurance just in case.

My m2 is my track car, that's the reason why I bought it for track usage, I do spiritedly drive it on the street but it's mainly my project car/track car. E85 is coming soon, I'm piecing my mods together one by one and just waiting out the warranty first, to make sure there are no faults with the car and j don't have have to pay out of pocket.

But after packing my track gear, I was surprised that the interior of the M2 seems smaller than the e46. I know once my track package comes from Tire Rack, there is no way all my gear fits. I've trailered vehicles to the track before and it was a pain in the ass for me, and I don't want to pay to have the trailer stored off season (5mo.). So I decided to construct a small towable track trailer. Since everything structurally other than the suspension is basically standard 2 series fare, I decided to take a chance and source the Curt 11367 hitch from eTrailer. http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitc...leid=201643958. My main concern was whether it would clear the stock exhaust, but there were no issues. And it's almost invisible with the CF diffuser. Total weight is 23 lbs., but I'll put up with the weight penalty for added utility. You're welcome.
Was wondering if you cut your bumper in picture #4 where the hitch is. I am doing this now and it seems hitch is in the way?

No cutting on the bumper, just the diffuser.

Was wondering what length and rise ball mount do you use for your trailer. My trailers coupler is 17" to the top of coupler. will I need an extended ball mount to clear bumper.

DrKevM5 - Thanks for this post. I installed mine today but probably would not have tackled it if it wasn't for your post. My car has the M Performance exhaust. I'm guessing the rear half of the heat shied is different with this exhaust as it required modifications in three places.

My trailer setup will be a little different, hoping to find additional functionality. Going with a 4x6 TrailerPlus unit. I'll post it pics later in the week.

I used the same hitch and wiring as described by DrKev. The M Performance Exhaust needed some tweaking with the heat shields, but was still straightforward. I went with a 4X6 Carry-On trailer from the local Trailer Plus dealer. To my surprise, the M2 has a 3,500 lb towing capacity. I've always waned a tire trailer but also wanted minimal stuff in the car if I had one.

To help carry more, I bought 2 48" X 20" boxes from Tractor Supply. I now know the same boxes, "Better Built", can be bought through WalMart to save some cash. I put one box in the front and one i the rear with the autox tires in between. I left room for potentially larger tires down the road.

I used a 2x4 platform to raise the tires enough [o fit as desired, With the two boxes all tools, clothes etc have room, and are out of the car and elements. There's about a foot of so more room at the end of the trailer for a bike.

Weights 700 to 800 lbs with tongue weight at about 80 lbs. Very easy pull.

Where'd you get that info? I've been looking everywhere and I can't find a towing capacity for the m2, rated by BMW.
